2. Costume Jewellery?
• The term costume jewellery dates
back to the early 20th century
• It reflects the use of the word
‘costume’ to refer to what is now
called an ‘outfit’
• It is meant to complement a
particular fashionable garment or
‘costume’
3. Why Costume Jewellery?
• It is more affordable than fine jewellery
• It is intended to be fashionable and worn to
fit with a new wardrobe or fashion style
• It is very stylish and can adapt to the
ever-changing fashion world
4. A Star-Studded Tale
• The Industrial Revolution in the
early 20th Century was the dawn
of the mass production era
• Replicas of flashy jewellery pieces made with inexpensive
materials, gems and coloured glass paved the way for beautiful,
yet affordable, jewellery
• Designs as intricate and as unique as any high-priced jewellery
became readily available to women of the world
5. • The fashion-conscious and style icons
began setting the trend in adorning
these twinkling trinkets
• From the roaring 20s to the shining
stars of the silver screen throughout
the 40s, costume jewellery became
part of celebrity life
6. High Fashion in High Society
• The widespread obsession with
costume jewellery caught the
eye of various designers and
artists
• Coco Chanel, the most notable
high-society advocate of the
‘jewellery of the people’
designed some of the most
memorable pieces of faux
jewellery
7. • In the 60s, costume jewellery designer
Kenneth Jay Lane created pieces
adorned by the über fashionable

15. Care for Adiva Divine Costume Jewellery
• Fine jewellery and fashion jewellery should not mix whether you are
wearing them, cleaning them, or storing them. Therefore, never keep your
real gold and costume jewellery together. Always store separately.
• To avoid your costume jewellery from tarnishing or becoming rusty or
pitted due to moisture quickly, keep them in plastic bags. Wrap loosely
inside the bags and store in boxes, drawers, or plastic containers.
• Always use big containers to keep jewels, do not jumble them with smaller
ones.
• While cleaning your costume jewellery, do not immerse it in water or any
cleaning solution. Doing so will cause a change in the colour of the stones.
It also dissolves the material used to set the stones. Instead, use a damp,
soft cloth to wipe the jewellery.
*Costume jewellery needs specific care, just as your other fine jewelleries
16. Care for Adiva Divine Costume Jewellery
• Never apply perfumes, deodorants, oils, body lotions or hairspray while
wearing the jewellery, as the chemicals will tarnish the plating on the
jewellery. Spray the perfume or hairspray first and then wear the
jewellery.
• Avoid wearing jewellery when bathing, going to bed, swimming, or when
exercising.
• Do not bend or apply excessive pressure to delicate jewellery. Bracelets or
necklaces should be stored in a flat manner with stones turned upward to
prevent them from coming loose and to maintain the shape of the
jewellery piece.
*Costume jewellery needs specific care, just as your other fine jewelleries
