Ma’am Carmen Gloria Henríquez and Ma’am Patricia Obreque

Extra information about this project will be given in a wiki called:

http://wessexenglishdepartment.wikispaces.com/

The purpose of this wiki is to create a virtual community where you can communicate and collaborate with
your classmates and teacher. In order to do this you must:

   1. Give your ma’am your e-mail address
   2. Check your mail to open the invitation to the wiki
   3. Accept invitation and join the class community (due date: July 30th)
   4. Check the wiki constantly and use it to get your teacher’s help when necessary and to
      collaborate with your classmates.

Project 1: Passive Voice
Part 1: Reading about product processes

The passive voice is especially helpful (and even regarded as mandatory) in scientific or technical writing
or lab reports, where the actor is not really important but the process or principle being described is of
   ultimate importance.

Instead of writing: "I poured 20 cc of acid into the beaker,"

    we would write:

"Twenty cc of acid is/was poured into the beaker."

The passive voice is also useful when describing, say, a mechanical process in which the details of
process are much more important than anyone's taking responsibility for the action:

"The first coat of primer paint is applied immediately after the acid rinse.
Part 2: Finding out how things are made:

        1. Choose one of the following objects and investigate how it is made.

1)antiperspirant 2) books 3) candle 4) cds 5) cereal 6) chocolate bar
deodorant stick

7) chewing gum 8) cotton 9) cork 10) credit cards 11) eraser 12) honey
                    candy

13)hot dog 14) leather 15) light 16) lipstick 17) 18) matches
                                   bulb lollipop

19) marbles 20) paper 21) pencil 22) popsicle 23) potato 24) rubber band
                    clip chip

25) soft drink 26)shampoo 27) tattoo 28)toothpaste 29) wool 30) yoghurt

        2. Use the following search engines for this part of the task:

              http://www.answers.com/ http://wiki.answers.com/

              http://www.kartoo.com/ http://taggalaxy.de

              http://www.madehow.com/ http://www.google.com

        3. Read the information and print it

        4. Summarize all the information into a minimum of 6 stages of the process using the passive
           voice.

        5. make a power point or a glogster (poster online) http://www.glogster.com/

              a) In your introduction give information about when this object was first made , where and by
              whom.

              b) Write minimum 6 stages of the process using passive voice, use graphics to explain the new
              vocabulary of elements and machines.

              c) Finally, state how much this process contaminates our planet.

        6. You will be given a mark for both: a ) your written activity and b) for your speaking abilities
           when presenting your project.
        7.
              Presentation date: Thursday August 6th
