The document describes RAW INK Online, a digital learning space created in 2008 to connect students, authors, and educators. It highlights several key aspects of RAW INK Online including expanding beyond the classroom through initiatives like CLUB INK; incorporating play through student-created book trailers and games; varied types of collaboration; and connecting students to authors through chats, Skype sessions, and author visits. The document provides examples of what student engagement looks like, including accessing titles digitally, responding creatively to works, and gaining early access to popular young adult books.
2. The Idea. . .
In the fall of 2008, we had an idea to
create a digital learning space:
Accessible to Students
Accessible to Young Adult Authors
Accessible to Teaching Professionals.
The idea became what is now
RAW INK Online
6.
In the fall of 2009, we took the RAW INK Online Concept
and Created CLUB (Collaborative Learning Utilizing
Buddies) with a 5th grade classroom on the Silver Creek
campus.
In the winter of 2009, we hosted our first RAW INK
sponsored poetry reading in cooperation with our local
IndieBound bookseller, Destinations Booksellers.
Working on plans for a Community Shared book with the
Local Community Foundation of Southern Indiana hosted
in part by RAW INK Online.

Book trailers allow students to really stretch out their
creative/remix abilities.
Mitch Donahue created a game based on the first
two chapters of James Patterson’s Maximum Ride
using Little Big Planet. He was able to demo his
game at Indiana University Southeast.
Jon, a Room 210 student created a book trailer for his
short story, “Gods Among Men.”
#2 Incorporating “Play”
14.
RAW INK Online students read/interact with blogs from
authors and other students.
Our regular chats with authors is a popular feature. This
year’s chats have been with: Chris Crutcher, Kimberly
Willis Holt, and Vordak the Incomprehensible (Scott
Seegert).
Skype chats this year include: Riley Carney and Tom
Angleberger.
Tyler and Jin (RAW INK Managers) were part of
EdTechTalk in February.
