INTRODUCCIÓN La velocidad de sedimentación globular (VSG) es una propiedad física de la sangre. Si se dispone de un tubo de sangre con anticoagulante y se deja en reposo se observa que después de un cierto tiempo las células se sedimentan formando 2 fases bien de limitadas que corresponden al plasma y a las células constituidas prácticamente en su totalidad por hematíes. La VSG es equivalente a la longitud del recorrido descendente de la parte superior de la columna de hematíes en un intervalo determinado de tiempo y varios factores contribuyen a este valor. FUNDAMENTO El test de velocidad de sedimentación globular (VSG) mide la sedimentación de eritrocitos en su plasma nativo. VSG es un test no específico que puede ser utilizado para detectar un amplio rango de enfermedades y para monitorear el curso evolutivo de ciertas enfermedades crónicas como los procesos inflamatorios crónicos (artritis reumatoidea, polimialgia reumática y tuberculosis) o la respuesta a la terapia, por ejemplo con citostáticos (enfermedad de Hodgkin, linfomas y mieloma múltiple). Sin embargo en ocasiones cuadros tan graves como neoplasias y la cirrosis pueden presentar una VSG normal. Constituye uno de los tests más utilizados como screening en el laboratorio clínico. Se trata de un método sencillo para realizar y que requiere equipamiento simple. OBJETIVO o Que el estudiante realice el procedimiento de cómo se procesa la velocidad de sedimento globular. o Que el estudiante conozca e investigue por que se realiza este tipo de prueba en el laboratorio clínico. o Que el estudiante aprenda a realizar la lectura del VSG. MATERIALES UTILIZADOS EN LA PRÁCTICA Sangre total (extracción venosa) Solución anticoagulante Pipeta de eritrosedimentación (pipeta de Westergreen) Soporte que inmovilice la pipeta en posición vertical. Cronómetro Aguja Ligadura Alcohol Algodón INDUMENTARIA Mandilón Guantes INSTRUCTIVO PARA LA OBTENCIÓN DE SANGRE PERIFÉRICA POR PUNCIÓN VENOSA 1. Durante la toma de muestra deben guardarse las más estrictas normas de higiene. 2. El material descartable a usar se abrirá sólo al momento de su utilización y, una vez manipulado, no podrá guardarse nuevamente aun cuando se lo considere nuevo. 3. Una vez realizada la toma de muestra, descartar inmediatamente los materiales usados en recipientes para ese fin. 4. Al momento de hacer la extracción colocarse los guantes desechables, los cuales se mantendrán puestos durante todo el procedimiento. 5. Antes de iniciar la toma de muestra, tener TODO el material preparado. 6. Elegir una vena bien visible en el antebrazo, localizándola visualmente y por palpación. Colocar el lazo y volver a palpar la vena, indicarle al paciente que abra y cierre el puño para facilitar la extracción. 7. Una vez identificada la vena, limpiar el área circundante con algodón empapado en alcohol. Dejar secar.
