Notes de l'éditeur

  1. Turn and talk
  2. Students demonstrate the skill of synthesizing when they perform these actions or processes.
  3. When readers begin to see the big picture they are beginning to synthesize. Thinking evolves as the reader reads. Have you ever read something that changed your mind? (turn and talk?)
  4. More than a summary includes students’ own interpretation.
  5. Helps reader see the big picture. Combine their existing knowledge, beliefs, and feelings and new information organizes their thinking so that they can interpret the text and obtain a more complete understanding of the complexities of the text..
  6. Most complex of all the strategies. Orchestrates many comprehension strategies: So that S can use strategies as tools for learning and develop a new perspective or insight 9thinking something they haven’t thought before.
  7. We have to teach Ss to stop periodically while reading, to collect thoughts or take stock of the text meaning and merge their thinking with it. Next we have to teach Ss to paraphrase information and to read for the gist in order to respond to and reflect on what they are thinking and learning. Then we need to teach Ss how to think through the factual information to arrive at the bigger ideas and to reflect on how their thinking changes over time. They must be taught how to pay attention to how ideas and information are organized and how to use the structure of the text to scaffold their learning.
  8. Use the Planning Toll: Comprehension Strategies Hierarchy. Work with a partner to plan a lesson for one of your picture books. Be prepared to share.

They must be taught how to pay attention to how ideas and information are organized and how to use the structure of the text to scaffold their learning.
  11. Products that demonstrate learning and understanding can take various forms: develop a new line of thinking, poems, posters, text ( paragraphs, reports, books), skits
