WRITING A MEDIA RELEASE Tourism Marketing 2010
What is a Media Release? A written or recorded communication directed at members of the news media for the purpose of announcing something claimed as having news value.  Short newspaper article sent to media outlets to gain their interest (e.g. newspapers, magazines, radio stations, TV stations). If all goes well they might publish a story about you Can help journalists assess your story and provide a way for you to present your case without getting flustered or tongue-tied.
What is a media release continued… An effective media release tells a story that will interest a number of people. The type of story will vary will depending on the media outlet you are approaching. The person reading your media release will be looking for stories that will interest their viewers/readers/listeners.
