Optimizing webpages for search
isn’t the only way to get your online
presence noticed. Creating search
engine friendly videos gives you an
interactive advantage over plain text
results. Videos are a great alternative
for consumers who are not interested
in reading content but instead would
like to watch their content.

Each part is equally important in creating
highly effective video optimization.
FILE NAME TITLE
When you save your video to your computer,
make sure your file name is keyword friendly.
Most devices tend to save video by date and
time. If you are videoing from your iPhone,
that is definitely the case.
When uploading the video, the title might
fill itself in with the file name. You should
make sure that the title is both descriptive
and keyword friendly. Above, you will see
that the name of my file, Apple Demo.MOV,
is keyword rich but not descriptive and
contains the file extension“.MOV.”Instead,
the title should be more like“PCG Video
Optimization Apple Demo.”That title is more
descriptive and still contains my keyword.

The description of a video should be optimized in much the same
way as the title but of course with more content. The first step in
working on the description is to drop in a URL where the viewer
can find more info on what is covered in the video, for instance your
dealership’s web address (make sure to start the URL with http:// or it
will not be made a click-able link in the description by YouTube).
Tagging is all about keywords. Get all the
keywords that relate to your video in there.
Is it a video about the new Dodge Dart?
Try keywords like 2013 Dodge Dart NJ,
NJ Dodge Dart Dealer, 2013 Dodge Dart
New Jersey and 2013 Dodge Dart. Cover
all the bases but don’t stuff the tags with
meaningless or unrelated keywords.
Make sure your visibility is set to public. A private video will
never rank! Don’t forget to pick a good thumbnail at the
bottom as well. A few frames from your video will display
and you should choose the most engaging one; the one
that will pull viewers in for more.
After making up your own tags, choose the most accurate
category. Are you a car dealership? If so, choose something like
Autos & Vehicles. Are you something other than a car dealership?
Make sure you fill this field out with a category that accurately
describes your business.
Your description should be keyword rich and, well, descriptive. Some
great things to include in the video description are the physical
address and phone number of your location, a description of your
location and even a transcript of the entire video. Content is king
even in the video world.
WARNING!
*When creating a video title and
description, don’t stuff keywords
or irrelevant topics. If the video is
about NJ car service, the video title
and description should be too. If
the video is about your dealership
reviews, so should be the title and
description.
