Notes de l'éditeur
Hello and welcome to PCI’swebinar focusing on the subject of Quarterly Business Reporting for the Consumer Packer. My name is Joanna Smith and I shall be taking you through the slides today.I hope you will find this webinar interesting and informative. If you have any questions, please take a note and I will provide my contact details at the end.The presentation takes approximately 10 minutes, thank you in advance for your time.
So moving onto our first slide, I wanted to start off by telling you a little about who we are.PCI are a specialist provider of market intelligence and consultancy services to the flexible packaging industry.and have been monitoring the flexible packaging supply chain for almost 20 years. In fact our senior consultants are still those same individuals who started the business up in 1994 and whom have extensive experience in this industry as a result. We are members of the PCI Consulting Group – leading consultants to the petrochemicals industry. Our focus is on providing business consulting, market research and marketing services to a variety of industries spanning the flexible packaging supply chain. Our clients benefit from an exclusive focus on Flexible Substrate materials, processes, formats and end use applications.Having our ownhighly trained and experienced market researchers and consultants who focus exclusively on this niche market, keeping in touch with industry players on a regular basis sets us apart from other information providers.and enables us to deliver deeper insights into specific issues. As you can see on the right of the slide, this extensive knowledge enables us to serve a wide audience from Resin suppliers at the top of the supply chain to end users of flexible packaging such as food manufacturers or retailers (i.e. the consumer packers) right through to waste handling organisations and others servicing this industry such as machine manufacturers and inks, adhesive and coatings suppliers.
This webinar has been designed specifically with the Consumer Packer in mind. So if you work for a company who uses flexible packaging to package your products and have a responsibility for the procurement of flexible packaging materials, you will learn how to gain access to valuable industry intelligence that gives you the tools to:Plan for future successNegotiate better dealsGain competitive advantageGrow your businessFind out too how you could benefit from: Unbiased and independent analysis of the driving forces affecting the flexible packaging market in your region. Feedback on current market prices at substrate level to help you monitor trends Prices that are more closely related to your buying prices than those provided by other polymer pricing indices Valuable insights into short and long term trends and developments taking place in the flexible packaging industry every quarter Knowledge and power to negotiate with suppliers Market research spotlights produced by our own in house authors not available from any other research agency
Our subscription based independent flexible packaging supply chain monitoring service will help you take advantage of the market movements in your region. We have six available titles;World Flexible Packaging TrendsEuropean Flexible PackagingThe Americas Flexible PackagingAsia Pacific, Middle East & Africa Flexible PackagingPolyester FilmsPolypropylene FilmsAll provide a comprehensive market overview; analysing current market trends and reporting on market players and end use markets.A sample of each of these reports is available to download direct from our website.
So, looking a little deeper now, our most popular service ‘World Flexible Packaging Trends’ forms the basis for all the others. All of the information found in this one report is sectioned off to form the other regions as well as the two substrate reports. This is to give our clients more flexibility in their choice of purchase depending on their regional or manufacturing industry focus. (Note: The Polyester Films report will contain more detail and some additional information not contained in the world). The Flexible Packaging series delivers information about:Flexible Substrate Market Prices (which I will go into in more detail shortly)Resins / Raw Materials / Substrate supplier newsConverting industry newsAnd finally End use market newsThe report is split by region and available to purchase as three separate regional reports:EuropeNorth AmericaCentral & South AmericaAsia & PacificMiddle East & AfricaThe Polyester Films and Polypropylene Films reports form our substrate series which deliver information about:Market prices for competitive substrates by region (Chinese, USA and Europe)And Market News covering:Raw material supplyFilm suppliersAnd end use marketsBoth reports deliver this information by region;EuropeAmericasAnd Asia/Pacific/Middle East and AfricaThroughout the year the complete series of reports provide information on:Price Movements, Demand Patterns in end use markets, Capacity Changes, Supply/Demand balances, Trade flows, Technical/Process developments, New products, Regulatory influences, End use markets, Company news and analysis and commentary from PCI experts. All of this keeps our subscribers up to date and informed of recent market changes but more importantly puts into context what those changes mean to the industry as a whole.
The accurate monitoring of substrate market prices provided within this series of reports is perhaps PCI’s most definitive USP. We are the only information provider worldwide which monitors substrate market prices delivering actual average market prices charged in the month before publication. We endeavour to interview by telephone buyers and sellers of the various substrates monitored in each of the nominated countries. This is to ensure we measure an average market price at delivered level. That is less discounts but including freight and duty. So, what can this information do for you as an end user of flexible packaging? Well, industries use the information in different ways but we have found that the consumer packer uses the pricing series in particular as an indexing tool to help them plan and forecast as well as negotiate with suppliers in the knowledge that they are well informed. In addition, a recent survey with our consumer packer clients also revealed that the raw material and substrate supplier news sections of the report were given an ‘extremely high value’ rating.
Each report is delivered electronically in pdf format and contains a simple index at the front, detailing each article headline. A simple Control and click on the headline will take you directly to the article within the report. As you go through the report, you will find that each headline is placed to the left with the main article to the right making for easy scanning of the document. There are graphics throughout where data can be illustrated more effectively.World Flexible Packaging Trends is published with approximately 100 pages each quarter and each regional and substrate report between 24 and 36 pages. So these reports are jam packed with relevant industry information, providing you with all you need to keep ahead and be informed whilst saving you valuable time in the process!
So to summarise what you get from these reports:There are 6 titles to choose from. All report on substrate market pricesThe flexible packaging series reports on resins, raw materials and substrates as well as the converting industry and end usersThe substrate supply series provides market information about raw material supply, polyester and polypropylene film producers and their end usersAs a subscriber you will benefit every three months from:Unbiased, independent analysis of the driving forces affecting the marketCurrent substrate materials pricing that is more closely related to your buying prices.Knowledge and power to negotiate with suppliersValuable insights into trends and developments taking place in the industry.Additional primary market intelligence not available from any other research agency.Information provides the Power to Succeed!
So to finish off the presentation,I just wanted to cover a few points that people often ask.
What do we define as ‘Flexible Packaging’ as the term can be used to describe a whole host of things! As you can see from the slide PCI’s definition of ‘Flexible Packaging’ is specific and narrowly focused covering two main areas: Primary retail food packaging and non-food applications such as Pet food, DIY products etc.To clarify: we do not review or comment on the supply chain for shrink and stretch films used for secondary packaging, pallet hoods and pallet wrap, carrier bags, supermarkets and self-service counter bags, silage bags, refuse or industrial sacks. In addition we do not include paper sacks over 20kg capacity that are used in industrial applications such as building cement products and little reference is made to developments in the labels industry.
Our information sources generally come from two areas:Published sources that are in the public domain; i.e. secondary research andValuable intellectual property exclusively gathered and maintained by PCI Films Consulting i.e. our own primary research obtained during the quarter. Our own primary research represents our considered assessment of the market at the time of publication and would have come from sources that we believe to be reliable. It should be noted that this valuable primary research is provided to our subscribers for their internal use only and is not allowed to be copied or transferred or sold to third parties outside of the subscriber organisation. All of our research is copyright protected.
Well, we have come to the end of the presentation. Thank you very much for listening,I hope you can now appreciate the value of this monitoring service a little more than before. Please do download our sample reports. If you are considering taking out a subscription and want to see a more up to date example of the report please do contact me direct. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me or one of my colleagues; our contact details are shown on the slide. And finally, if you think any of your own colleagues may benefit from our research and would consider subscribing to this service please forward our details to them.Thank you once again and good bye!
