Private equity firms invest in new companies and ideas, with over 3,300 such firms based in the US. Over the past decade, private equity has invested more than $3.6 trillion in US companies, employing 7.5 million people at over 11,000 US companies at the end of 2013. In addition to supporting the companies they invest in, private equity's impact can stimulate broader economic growth, such as investing almost $15 billion in bankrupt US firms since the Great Recession.
