Offers baby comfort and safety during sleep and also helps preserve baby’s natural head shape avoiding flat head syndrome.
Babies can often be seen with a flat spot on the back or side of
the head. This sometimes comes about as a result of modern
travel systems that allow parents to transfer their baby’s car seat
into the stroller base without removing the child, increasing the
time baby remains in the same position. Additionally, in an effort to reduce instances of cot death, babies are placed on their
backs and whilst this undoubtedly saves lives, it can contribute
to flat head syndrome.
One way to help retain a more rounded head shape is to use
the Theraline Baby Pillow. Utilising a simple and unique design
it is anatomically shaped using perforated high-tech, breathable
fabric and will support baby’s delicate head evenly and effectively. The high-tech ‘open’ fabric maintains an even temperature around the head and there’s even a pre-shaped hollow.

How to avoid flat head syndrome in babies

Plagiocephaly is a condition
that causes a baby‘s head to
have a flat spot (flat head syndrome) or be misshapen. The
most common form is positional plagiocephaly. It occurs
when a baby‘s head develops a
flat spot due to pressure on that
area. Babies are vulnerable because their skull is soft and pliable
when they‘re born.
Positional plagiocephaly typically develops after birth when
babies spend time in a position that puts pressure on one part
of the skull. Because babies spend so much time lying on their
back, for example, they may develop a flat spot where their head
presses against the mattress.
Starting in the early 1990s, parents were told to put their babies
to sleep on their back to reduce the risk of SIDS. While this advice
has saved thousands of babies‘ lives, experts have noticed a fivefold increase in misshapen heads since then.
More rarely, babies develop craniosynostosis, a birth defect in
which the joints between the bones of the skull close early. Babies born with craniosynostosis need surgery to allow their brain
to grow properly, so always consult your health visitor if you have
any concerns.

How to correct flat head syndrome
Repositional therapy involves regularly changing your baby‘s
position to avoid putting pressure on the flattened area of the
head. (Babies tend to settle into the same comfortable position
in their crib and infant seats.)
Here are ideas for changing your baby‘s position during daily activities and strengthening neck muscles:
Bedtime and naps: Alternate the direction your baby‘s head
is facing when you put her to sleep. To encourage this, lay it’s
down with it’s head at a different end of the cot for naps and
each night. If it’s cot is against a wall, it should naturally turn it’s
head to look out into the room. (Or you could hang a mobile
outside the crib to attract it’s attention.) Vary the direction it has
to turn to look and it’ll change the side of it’s head that‘s pressed
against the mattress.
Sitting time: Avoid leaving your baby for extended periods of
time in a car seat, infant seat, baby swing, baby carrier, or other
place where it’s head is likely to rest on the same spot.
Tummy time: During waking hours, supervised tummy time is
essential for the development of motor skills. Tummy time also
helps prevent plagiocephaly by strengthening babies‘ neck
muscles. To make sure your baby enjoys being on her tummy,
take the opportunity to put her on her tummy when she‘s not
asleep starting in the first few days of life.

breast gives too much milk
during breast feeding you can
easily stop the flow of milk
by adding gentle pressure to
the nipple. This simple reflex
forms the basis of how our
Mamma Pads work! Instead
of soaking up ‘leaking’ milk
by using nursing pads, our
silicone pads temporarily shut
off the fine milk ducts (5) by pressing gently on the nipple (3). When you remove the pad, the ducts open again
and your milk flow resumes in the usual way, ready for
breast feeding.

Easy & pleasant to use
Thanks to a very thin, medical adhesive coating, the
breathable silicone nursing pads stay in place without
any further assistance. The adhesive coating of the soft
high-tech silicone pad will adapt to every breast shape.
It applies gentle pressure which carefully inverts the nipple.
The use of breathable silicone means Mamma Pads are
comfortable, unobtrusive and easy to wear. Silicone enables a gas and oxygen exchange, very similar to your own
skin. (The same principle is used, for example, with longterm silicone contact lenses). Mamma Pads are so light
and easy to wear that you’ll soon forget you’ve even got
them on.
