The April 25th Karate Tournament is an annual event held in Maia, Portugal since 2001 that promotes karate competition among young students and celebrates Portuguese national freedom. Over 1200 athletes typically register from Portugal and other countries like Spain, France, and Morocco. The 2010 edition will take place on April 17-18 at the Pavilhão Municipal do Corim in categories for kata and kumite across various age groups and belts. Registration is open on the Clube de Karaté da Maia website until early April, and the event includes prize money for some senior divisions.

Instedofthe WKF eliminationsystem , eachkidhas to do 2 Katas, judgedbypointsscore (insteadofflags). WinnersofKata (kids) ofeachStylemustperform na extra Kata for the “AllStyle Final”, alsoevaluatedbypointsscore. NOTE: ShiteiKatamustbethoseoftherelatedstyles, SaifaandSeipaifromGoju, JionandKanku Dai fromShoto, andsoon, and are evaluated as Tokui.
