VILLA DE ZILLA / MAILBOX
Scottsdale, Arizona
A contemporary mailbox designed to
complement the modern architecture
of the architect’s Villa De Zilla
residence. Custom fabricated from
polished and brushed satin metal
this mailbox complies with all US
Postal regulations and incorporates
a ‘Greenscreen’ support base
to allow for colorful desert vine
growth to enrich this minimalist
composition. Hefty anti-theft Bryce
Fasteners are prominently featured
and ADOT break-away sign support
posts anchor the mailbox to the
ground. Unfortunately this beautiful
modern mailbox met an untimely
demise by a wayward vehicle only
a few months after installation…
and they didn’t even leave a note!
2. PERRY BECKER - ARCHITECT, LEED APHOSPITALITY / REMODELING
HOTEL SAN CARLOS
PORTICO STUDY
Phoenix, Arizona
A schematic design study to explore
the new addition of a permanent
entry portico to replace the fabric
awning at the historic Hotel San
Carlos located in downtown Phoenix.
Influenced by the existing building’s
architectural elements this proposed
portico is a tasteful understated
addition to the long-time hotel while
also providing a much needed street
level illuminated signage opportunity.

VILLA DE ZILLA /
OFFICE MILLWORK
Scottsdale, Arizona
Custom designed office millwork
comprised of Baltic plywood and clear
anodized aluminum support Rakks
shelving systems. This millwork
features exposed plywood edges,
adjustable shelves, matching drafting
table and flush Hafele hardware pulls.
4. PERRY BECKER - ARCHITECT, LEED APADAPTIVE REUSE / EDUCATIONAL
PHOENIX HERPETOLOGICAL
SOCIETY
EDUCATION AND
VISITORS CENTER
Scottsdale, Arizona
Designed as an addition to an
existing Quonset metal hut as part
of grant contest sponsored by
a national pet store retailer, this
proposed project is positioned to
upgrade the simple storage aspect
of the existing metal building onto a
much needed education & visitors
center. Located near the public
entry point to this non-profit reptile/
animal rescue facility, this remodeled
structure would provide a gathering
spot for the many visitors to this
sanctuary and additional educational
opportunities as well. A new large
metal shed structure would provide
a shaded area for the comfort of
guests and allow clearstory windows
to bring daylight into the interior of
the dark Quonset hut. An artistic
‘tortoise’ trellis of welded metal rebar
would soften the project with colorful
desert vines and provide a signature
architectural element as a focal point.

GREENSCREEN AT
THE VILLA DE ZILLA
Scottsdale, Arizona
A custom designed Greenscreen
installation to enhance the Villa De
Zilla entry experience with colorful
fragrant Cape Honeysuckle vines
and a small ‘window’ of three Soleri
bells. This landscape element
adds a practical micro-climate
cooling effect adjacent to a stack-
bond masonry sitting bench which
overlooks the spherical fountain.
