- So what customer challenges do the FilesX products help us address? When we look at the different causes of data loss today, it’s easy to see information can become lost or corrupted very easily. Traditionally, we have only looked at things like hardware failure and disasters. However, up to 79% of data loss can be from Human Error, Software Corruption & virus attacks. Data loss can happen at ANY time. As data storage has grown, traditional methods of back up have taken longer and longer. In fact, many back up windows may not be able to be completed overnight. Having non-technical staff managing remote office tapes can also be a challenge. FilesX allows users to set policies and procedures to run backups with no intervention by local staff. FilesX can eliminate the need to manage tapes remotely by using disk 2 disk backup and restore. FilesX allows users to mount a backup image as a drive letter and use drag and drop restore of those files back to the users system. End users can restore any deleted files or folders without IT involvement. From a central site, IT can replace application files that have become corrupt or attacked by virus. If there is a hardware failure like a disk or system crash, FilesX allows a new system to be rebuilt for Business Continuance either to a new hardware environment or to a virtual machine. With the Disaster Recovery capabilities, our customers can have both local or centrally managed DR sites for fast restore and limited downtime. The data that is sent to the DR sites is always secure.

- Advanced Recovery for Microsoft Exchange® Using traditional backup technologies such as backup to tape can present big challenges when trying to protect and recover mission critical applications such as Microsoft Exchange. Recovering anything requires hours of sorting through backup tapes, loading them in the correct order, copying the data and then figuring out exactly what you're looking for. Most IT organizations reject requests to recover individual messages (depending on who's asking) due to the time and skill needed. FilesX TSM FastBack for Microsoft Exchange 2007 is a next generation solution to this problem. As an optional add-on to TSM FastBack(R), which provides non-disruptive block-based protection on a policy basis, or used as a stand-alone utility, TSM FastBack for Microsoft Exchange 2007 allows administrators and users to easily and quickly recover any Exchange object: E-mail message and/or attachment Contact list Calendars Tasks Journal entries Entire folders and EDBs TSM FastBack for Microsoft Exchange 2007 includes an intuitive Windows-style GUI that allows administrators to view the contents of any Microsoft Exchange 5.5, 2000, 2003 or 2007 databases (EDBs). - The purpose of this slide is to emphasize how FilesX can save SMB customers both time and money while also improving their business continuity posture. The elimination of tape in the robo saves money through less labor cost as well as elimination of the cost of tape (small). The biggest benefit however is the improved administration. The customer also gains an improved DR position with the ability to replicate his remote offices to a separate location. Prior to this the tapes were stored at someone’s home or typically left in a desk in the same building, providing no real DR benefit
- Instant Restore is a patented technology from FilesX. In this scenario, we have a customer who’s Exchange server goes down at 9pm before a 12AM deadline. With traditional backup and restore programs, it could hours to restore the server. And this could cause our customer to miss their deadlines and face any number of liabilities. However, with FilesX, we can restore the server much quicker; even if we have to rebuild the entire machine. If we are going to restore to a new machine, we can use TSM FastBack BMR to rebuild the OS even on dissimilar hardware or to a virtual machine. We could even build a new server that would be shipped out to the site at a later date. The administrator could also quickly bring a “hot spare” server into service in a matter of minutes. Once the server is running, now Instant Restore can come into play. The allows the administrator to mount the Exchange backup volume to the server in a matter of a few minutes. The data is available to be read right away while the restore is still in process in background putting the data back on the Exchange server.
- E-mail is now a mission critical business application for most companies. And it is becoming a support nightmare. Any number of issues can cause a users mailbox to become corrupt… most commonly .. The user deleting critical business information by mistake. One of the challenges is that e-mail data has grown very large. The backup window for e-mail continues to expand. Backups are only being done in off peak hours. If a piece of business critical data arrives before that backup and is then lost, there is no recovery. FilesX TSM FastBack CDP with it’s Incremental Forever, CDP & Snapshot features allows administrators to backup data more often… even continuously. Many FilesX customers are backing up their mail server 6 to 10 times a day! Now that the data is backed up more often, recovering e-mail & calendar data is much more current. With FilesX E TSM FastBack for Microsoft Exchange , the administrator can restore individual mailboxes or even individual items within the e-mail like messages, contacts, calendar items and attachments. Easy to use “Point & Click” interface for E TSM FastBack for Microsoft Exchange makes restoring the individual items a breeze.
- One of the challenges of managing remote offices is they can go off and solve challenges on their own. Because of that, companies wind up with all kinds of different systems across multiple branches. As we look to start consolidating the backup information, we wind up with very little integration. There are no standard interfaces. We have to maintain training and education on a wide number of different systems. In short, it become extremely difficult to manage. FilesX gives us a consolidate view of our remote offices. Administrators can set policy from a central site which can be used across remote branches. Leveraging disk-disk capabilities, we can eliminate the drudgery of tape management at the remote sites. The local copies of the backup information are maintained so backup and restore is quick and efficient. Backup windows are measured in minutes instead of hours. Disaster Recovery can be implemented at local, central and offsite locations. If there is still a requirement to send tapes to off site storage, FilesX integrates with TSM to provide disk to disk to tape functionality. Once the FilesX data is in TSM, we can take advantage of all of TSM’s Archive capabilities as well as SSAM & the DR550.
