2. OVERVIEW
Operations and Processes are best defined by their outputs,
and to arrive at those outputs, one must define each step;
systematic reviews that focus on approaches that will best
guide in arriving at the desired destination. Monitoring and
Evaluation is important in guiding and safeguarding planned
activities in the process of achieving desired results. In contrast
to conventional approaches, monitoring and evaluation
designed in a participatory way, promotes and sustain
relationships between different stakeholders, within and
outside the funding organisation. Involving the community from
the beginning ensures that the project evolves around people’s
felt needs, and is therefore moreresponsive to local
conditions. The participatory process also builds and promotes
the community’s ownership of the project. It is key that
community development and relations professionals gain basic
understanding of the underlying principles of monitoring and
evaluating community projects as these are important factors
that contribute to the success and sustainability of any
community activity.
