52. 2.3.1. Trade Network:
Due to remoteness and adhoc trading patterns, a
trade network is facilitated to develop collective
strategies, with focus on organised and planned
trade with producer groups, reduction of costs and
inefficient trading [buying, selling, transporting,
promotion]
Strong facilitation of the trade network is needed to
ensure improved entrepreneurship in acting as a
provincial/interprovincial network
2.3. Strengthen the linkages
with the private sector and markets
Strategy for 2012-2014
53. OBJECTIVES OF BAMBOO
HANDICRAFT TRADE NETWORK
IMPROVEMENT
Do quick assessment of bamboo trader network
Build trust among trade networking group members
and empower Houaphanh trader has skillful
negotiation
Increase large scale of bamboo product sale for out
stakeholders
Keep existing provincial firms and find out new
clients
55. WHAT DID WE LEARN FROM
BAMBOO TRADE NETWORK

Cool capital for trade can be unable avoiding
Local trader performs high commitment in sector
11 XKH Shops are best selling HP bamboo products
12 New shops are positive to joint venture
4 Million kip per shop monthly buys HP products
Productivity and marketing center running
Power in negotiation of trade network
56. TRADE NETWORK ASSESSMENT
(KEY INTERVENTIONS 2011-2013)
Trader network began at the end of 2011
Initially trade network established 4 provinces of
Vientiane, Xiengkhouang, LuangPraBang and Houaphanh
(2013: Oudomxay, Luangnamtha and Bolikhamxay)
study tour for 10 traders in Savannaket and Champasak
Provided training on marketing survey to traders
Fund saving and a pair of join capital
Each province does trading as agreement adopted
Provide information (trade fair, exhibition, seminar,……)
Website created
Bamboo products catalogue
Business plan
Set up production base
Access to trading capital
57. TRADE NETWORK ASSESSMENT
(CONSTRAINTS AND CHALLENGES)
Trader’s knowledge, skill and attitude do not homogeneous
Lack of trust among themselves
Individual perspective is negatively to each other, look as
competitor rather than partner
Receive large order but don’t want to share with the network
even if s(he) is unable to respond market demanded
No enough capacity to receive the order from oversea
because technology of communication is under developed
(pictures, product samples, internet,…), only call phone does
not enough work
Role of each bamboo team will overlap, repeat and
troubleshoot each other in value chain, waste time and
budget and trust
Caution! Bamboo team will damage bamboo trader’s market
intended/unintended, do not buy any product from producers
at all, should buy through traders
