• Income after taxes much less
than basic household
expenses
• Public assistance is still
needed to meet even the most
basic obligations
• Standard of living may
decrease from welfare state.
Single mom has less time and
more financial obligations
• Income after taxes barely pays
basic household expenses with
no public assistance
• Does not provide for long-
term savings (college,
retirement, etc.) or most
“extras”
• Standard of living does not
improve from welfare state
A single mom can now provide:
• A home in a safe
neighborhood
• Clean & safe childcare
• Health & dental insurance
• New school clothes &
supplies
• Reliable transportation
• Short-term emergency savings
• Retirement savings
• College savings
