Pension funds can be traced all the
way back to the Presbyterian
Ministers’ Fund in 1759, which was
created by the First Presbyterian
Church in Philadelphia. The fund
was the first modern-style pension
fund.
This period had a profound impact on the
history of investing. For the first time in history,
the general population began to share in
economic surplus. People started to have
savings from their jobs.
During this time period, some of the world’s
largest financial institutions and banking firms
(many of which still operate today) were
developed.
Charles. H. Dow unveiled something he called
the Railroad Average, which would later be
called the Dow Jones Transportation Average
and Dow Jones Industrial Average – the world’s
first stock index.
Thanks to this act and its wide-ranging
legislation, exchanges could more easily trade in
secondary markets – including stocks, bonds,
and debentures.
Global economy went through a period of
sustained growth and economic activity. All that
growth meant that we needed new investment
vehicles and investment products. Real estate
investment trusts (REITs) and the first Silicon
Valley IPO (in 1956) took place during this
period.
The NASDAQ grew in popularity throughout the
1980s and 1990s, and all that increased
exposure led to investors inflating the tech
bubble in the late 1990s – a bubble that
eventually burst. The internet has made it easy
for online brokers to do business, offering
cheaper commission and trading fees than
traditional banks and brokers.

9. About 11 years ago on May 22, Laszlo
Hanyecz, one of the early adopters of the
newfangled cryptocurrency that had just
been coded into existence, purchased a pair
of Papa Johns pizza pies using 10,000
bitcoins.
The purchase equated to roughly $41
dollars back in 2010, based on the going
rate for bitcoin back then, and is widely
viewed as the first time a virtual currency
had been used to buy anything in the real
world.
However, those 10,000 bitcoins would be
valued at approximately $470 million at the
current rate.

10. How to Invest in Crypto
Someone who invested in Bitcoin in 2013 and sold it today
would certainly make some incredible profits.
The problem is that there’s no way to time the cryptocurrency
market. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies could continue to
dramatically increase in price, or they could drop to zero.
In the same way that we can
exchange Rupiahs for any other
currency such as Dollars or Yens or
Euros, you can also exchange our
Rupiahs for crypto assets.
• Bitcoin miners receive Bitcoin as a
reward for completing "blocks" of
verified transactions, which are
added to the blockchain.
• Mining rewards are paid to the
miner who discovers a solution to a
complex hashing puzzle first, and
the probability that a participant
will be the one to discover the
solution is related to the portion of
the total mining power on the
network.
