Customers are challenged today by a constant struggle between velocity and governance. What they want is consistent, secure, and scalable software deployments, but their security teams also need to be able to identify possible issues early in the development process to allow for proactive modification to the deployment process to ensure compliance in the cloud. Join us for a webinar on “Securing AWS Deployments with Spinnaker and Armory Enterprise” to learn: How to experiment while still enforcing deployment policies How to build reusable modules that reduce the number of stages needed for deployment How lockable pipelines enforce continuous delivery to release orchestration best practices

Security in the cloud is fundamentally different. Not so much due to the technology--though there's plenty of differences there--but more with respect to the way that security is applied and how it's run. Over the past few years, we've seen a radical shift in how development and operational teams work together. Security teams have been left out in the cold and are still viewed as the "No" team. It doesn't have to be that way. Cloud technologies have enabled new work flows and models for businesses and other teams...security is no different. We just have to wake up and take advantage of the new ecosystem. When security teams embrace change, the boundaries start to dissolve and security can finally be built in instead of bolted on. In this session, we'll look at some of the challenges involved in this shift, how it impacts your teams, your skill set, and how a modern approach to defence will improve your security posture. As the basic components of cloud computing hit the mainstream, we’re seeing a second generation of application stack components emerge—cloud databases, load-balancers, messaging queues, caches, workers, and so on. They’re much more than just rented metal, and they’re what makes clouds much more than just on-demand hardware. In this session, we’ll look at the latest and greatest trends in the “cloud stack”, looking at where this technology is headed, why it holds so much promise, and what the major challenges and risks are.

Managing and scaling the infrastructure for critical business data can be a real pain. To handle this massive scale of data effectively, thousands of users of MongoDB from all around the world have migrated their large and small databases to MongoDB Atlas. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of the “how” and “why” of it, and will be able to leverage it in your organisation with elevated confidence. I'll demo the migration of a realtime application using MongoDB from existing cloud infrastructure to MongoDB Atlas. If you're a developer, DBA or a business stakeholder, and your organisation is using/planning to use MongoDB on-premise or with any other cloud vendor, this talk will help you to gain insights into the best way to run MongoDB.

In recent months, Deep Learning has become the hottest topic in the IT industry. However, its arcane jargon and its intimidating equations often discourage software developers, who wrongly think that they’re “not smart enough”. Through code-level demos based on Apache MXNet, we’ll demonstrate how to build, train and use models based on different types of networks: multi-layer perceptrons, convolutional neural networks and long short-term memory networks. Finally, we’ll share some optimization tips which will help improve the training speed and the performance of your models.

We all lead such busy lives, yet the rollercoaster of technological change is a crazy ride to keep up with. In this talk we explore how the concept of 'mini hacks' - small, contained experiments, explorations and side projects - can help to keep our skills up to date and help us play with code that we may not otherwise get an opportunity to develop during our day jobs. We discuss why such undertakings can be worthwhile, how you can fit them into your life, and go through some ideas for concepts and ways to get involved.

The secret is out – Drupal has become the ‘go-to’ open source software for the publication and management of website content. By pairing Drupal with cloud technologies there is a whole new world of user benefits well beyond scale and performance. In this session, Bret Piatt, director, technical alliances at Rackspace Hosting will discuss how to best take advantage of cloud technologies with Drupal sites. The panel presentation will address: • Leveraging the cloud ecosystem for managing configuration, code, and backups • How to scale Drupal clusters by integrating with cloud APIs • Enhancing site scale and performance by taking advantage of cloud file storage/CDN • Cloud/Drupal success stories such as Chapter Three’s ( http://www.chapterthree.com ) on Mercury, a Drupal PaaS built on The Rackspace Cloud’s Cloud Servers

Devoxx Poland 2019, Kraków: Talk by Mario-Leander Reimer (@LeanderReimer, Principal Software Architect at QAware) === Please download slides if blurred! === Abstract: Only a few years ago the move towards microservice architecture was the first big disruption in software engineering: instead of running monoliths, systems were now build, composed and run as autonomous services. But this came at the price of added development and infrastructure complexity. Serverless and FaaS seem to be the next disruption, they are the logical evolution trying to address some of the inherent technology complexity we are currently faced when building cloud native apps. FaaS frameworks are currently popping up like mushrooms: Knative, Kubeless, OpenFn, Fission, OpenFaas or Open Whisk are just a few to name. But which one of these is safe to pick and use in your next project? Let's find out. This session will start off by briefly explaining the essence of Serverless application architecture. Leander will then define a criteria catalog for FaaS frameworks and continue by comparing and showcasing the most promising ones.

The massive computing and storage resources that are needed to support big data applications make cloud environments an ideal fit, and more so OpenStack, which is open and is emerging as a standard for both public and private clouds. But managing your big data app is no walk in the park - configuration, orchestration, HA, auto-scaling are all quite hard to do - which is where Cloudify fits in.

With AWS, companies now have the ability to develop and run their applications with speed and flexibility like never before. Working with an infrastructure that can be 100 percent API driven enables businesses to use lean methodologies and realize these benefits. This in turn leads to greater success for those who make use of these practices. In this session, we talk about some key concepts and design patterns for continuous deployment and continuous integration, two elements of lean development of applications and infrastructures.

Slides from Daniel Figucio, Field CTO at Github APAC from his talk at Wellington DevOps Group on 6 September, 2022 https://www.meetup.com/wellington-devops-group/events/287973178/ Adopting this modern approach to software development can be transformative—enabling collaboration and fostering the creation of high quality code. But understanding the principles, and potential challenges, is critical to success. Many companies use the word “innersource” to describe how their engineering teams work together on code. Innersource is a development methodology where engineers build proprietary software using best practices from large-scale open source projects, like Kubernetes or Microsoft’s Visual Studio Code. Large-scale open source projects require coordination and teamwork across thousands of contributors. The most successful ones are driven by a vision for their future, in addition to day-to-day user needs: speed, reliability, and functionality. The scale at which these operate can teach us a few lessons—and help your business build better software, faster using innersource.

With more memory available, system performance of three Dell devices increased, which can translate to a better user experience Conclusion When your system has plenty of RAM to meet your needs, you can efficiently access the applications and data you need to finish projects and to-do lists without sacrificing time and focus. Our test results show that with more memory available, three Dell PCs delivered better performance and took less time to complete the Procyon Office Productivity benchmark. These advantages translate to users being able to complete workflows more quickly and multitask more easily. Whether you need the mobility of the Latitude 5440, the creative capabilities of the Precision 3470, or the high performance of the OptiPlex Tower Plus 7010, configuring your system with more RAM can help keep processes running smoothly, enabling you to do more without compromising performance.

Heather Hedden, Senior Consultant at Enterprise Knowledge, presented “The Role of Taxonomy and Ontology in Semantic Layers” at a webinar hosted by Progress Semaphore on April 16, 2024. Taxonomies at their core enable effective tagging and retrieval of content, and combined with ontologies they extend to the management and understanding of related data. There are even greater benefits of taxonomies and ontologies to enhance your enterprise information architecture when applying them to a semantic layer. A survey by DBP-Institute found that enterprises using a semantic layer see their business outcomes improve by four times, while reducing their data and analytics costs. Extending taxonomies to a semantic layer can be a game-changing solution, allowing you to connect information silos, alleviate knowledge gaps, and derive new insights. Hedden, who specializes in taxonomy design and implementation, presented how the value of taxonomies shouldn’t reside in silos but be integrated with ontologies into a semantic layer. Learn about: - The essence and purpose of taxonomies and ontologies in information and knowledge management; - Advantages of semantic layers leveraging organizational taxonomies; and - Components and approaches to creating a semantic layer, including the integration of taxonomies and ontologies
