Membership Membership in the PHRA is open to those individuals who are either actively engaged in the professional aspects of human resources, are working in a closely associated field, or are enrolled full-time in a recognized college or university’s HR, Labor Relations or related program of study. 4. College Relations The College Relations Committee will focus on helping current HR students make the most of their college experience by engaging their SHRM student chapters and encouraging student participation in projects and events that will encourage their professional development. College relations activities include hosting a college event, establishing regular contact with student chapters, providing on-campus speakers, and participating in career days/job shadowing.

As an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world’s largest association devoted to human resources management, members have a greater voice in matters affecting the profession and the workforce it serves. PHRA is a professional membership organization and a source of practical policy, regulatory, workforce and emerging trend information for human resources and business professionals. Through relevant programming, PHRA enhances the HR professional’s leadership role in the vitality of the region’s workforce and economy.
6. Events PHRA is an active association with numerous events and programs to meet the diverse needs of our members and potential members. A sampling of our yearly offerings include Learning and Professional Development Programs, Networking Events, Golf and Bocce Outing, and our Annual Conference & Exhibition to name a few. We are pleased to extend the invitation to these events to our colleagues in surrounding geographical areas, local SHRM chapters, related professional associations, and business and community leaders. 7. People Do Matter Awards The People do Matter Initiative was created to encourage effective practices in human resources, the People Do Matter initiative recognizes southwestern Pennsylvania employers whose human resource practices best demonstrate the importance of providing workers a positive return on their contributions of time, attention, ideas, knowledge, passion, energy, and social networks to ensure productivity, efficiency, and business results. The goal of People Do Matter is to increase regional awareness of human capital investments and to encourage, recognize and replicate these high-performance human resource practices in our area. 8. Careers If you are in transition or are looking for a new career change, PHRA can be a useful resource. We have workshops as well as a yearly conference with a mobile career center on display with professionals giving tips and providing workshop sessions.
