World
Dream Island Waterpark takes
guests back to the age of dinosaurs
with a Jurassic theme.
Located on the third floor of Dream Town Shopping Mall
in the Kiev, Dream Island Waterpark is the largest indoor
waterpark in Ukraine. The waterpark, located between two
metro stations, Minskaya and Geroyev Dnepra, opened on
July 15th, 2011.
A dream come true
This unique indoor park covers about 25,000 square me-
ters (approx. 269,000 sq. ft.) and has a capacity of about
3,500 people.
Once guests enter the park they feel that they have been
transported to a “lost world” thanks to the impeccable Ju-
rassic theme located throughout the park with prehistoric
animals and wild plants. They then have the choice of 14
waterslides, 5 especially themed pools and 9 types of sau-
nas—all designed and supplied by Polin Waterparks.
“We faced some unique design challenges in the creation
of this particular park. Due to the existing rectangular
shape of the building, all the waterslides had to start above
the building and enter through the roof,” said Zeynep Can-
baz, the Senior Designer.
“We ended up using the existing building supports to de-
sign the waterslides. In the end everyone was happy!”
Besides the usual high-thrill water rides, Dream Island
includes many attractions for younger kids including an
interactive water play area, an aqua tower, a fish aquari-
um, smaller waterslides and other attractions.
The park is open year-round, seven days a week.
Making a splash!
Dream Island contains a gaggle of nearly every type of
waterslides available including the following:
• “Turbolance” allows riders to experience a steep drop down
where they are propelled uphill vertically. Then they experi-
ence another unforgettable path this time a reverse path tak-
ing them over a bump and ending into a splash pool.

Kiev, Ukraine, A History
Kiev (Kyiv) is the capital and the largest city of Ukraine, located in the north central part
of the country on the Dnieper River.
The name Kiev is said to derive from the name of Kyi, one of four legendary founders of
the city (brothers Kyi, Shchek, Khoryv and sister Lybid). During its history, Kiev, one of the
oldest cities in Eastern Europe, passed through several stages of great prominence and rela-
tive obscurity. The city probably existed as a commercial center as early as the 5th century.
A Slavic settlement on the great trade route between Scandinavia and Constantinople, Kiev
was a tributary of the Khazars, until seized by the Vikings in the mid-9th century. Under
Vikings rule, the city became a capital of the Rus’, the first East Slavic state. Completely
destroyed during the Mongol invasion in 1240, the city lost most of its influence for the
centuries to come. It was a provincial capital of marginal importance in the outskirts of the
territories controlled by its powerful neighbours; first the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, fol-
lowed by Poland and Russia.
The city prospered again during the Russian Empire’s industrial revolution in the late
19th century. In 1917, after the Ukrainian National Republic declared independence from
the Russian Empire, Kiev became its capital. And from 1921 onwards Kiev was an important
city of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, and, from 1934, its capital. During World War
II, the city again suffered significant damage, but quickly recovered in the post-war years,
remaining the third largest city of the Soviet Union. Following the collapse of the Soviet
Union and the Ukrainian independence of 1991, Kiev remained the capital of Ukraine.

4. These are just a few highlights of the ride
mix offered at Dream Island Waterpark. Of
course the park offers more than just excit-
ing rides. The park offers party programs,
corporate celebrations and space for special
events. Full packages include entrance to
the waterpark along with some group activi-
ties like water polo, volleyball, etc. The facility
also has a conference room for meetings. Groups
that rent out the conference space may include
a meal within their package which is most often a
lunch, dinner or cocktail type of service. If it is a birth-
day party, then Dream Island has a package of activities
specially designed for kids together
with a kids’ meal.
Since the park offers such a unique
and educational theme, Dream
Island gives a special discount on
Wednesdays to students from area
schools. In the future, the facility is
hoping to do more tie-ins with the
theme for field trips, science projects
and more with elementary and sec-
ondary schools.
To keep guests safe, Dream Is-
land employs around 100 certified
lifeguards throughout the year.
Visit the official web site of the wa-
ter park at http://dreamtown.ua/ to
