7. FROM
THE DESK OF
PRINCIPAL
“Different people believe in different ideas of life.
As a result, they look at education differently.
There is, therefore, no universal definition of
education. But one thing every one should have to
remember as a vital executive of the universe, they
are bound to contribute something to justify their
superiority. Every human being is a treasure of
enormous potential. Through education we are to
ignite it. But in recent times, we often experience a
paradigm shift in the basic approach to education.
We are making an allout endeavour to restore this
basic approach in the institute through different
developments and community services. Let us
hope and expect that our students will utilize this
website as one of the platforms for cultivating at
least those areas of basic education.”
— Dr. Jyotirmoy Jhampati
8. MESSAGE FROM
TABISH KHAIR
I had a feeling of coming home when I reached Jalpaiguri on the invitation of
Professor Ranjan Ghosh and Dr. Sumana Roy. It was in a very different part of India
than that one I grew up in. And yet, there was a kind of family resemblance. I grew up
in Gaya in Bihar: Jalpaiguri is smiliar, a small town and a district headquarter, so to
say, provincial in a way, and yet with interesting historical echoes, a link to the wider
world. The student. I met during my talk and reading at Jalpaiguri Govt. Engg.
College also reminded me of myself. We who grow up and study in place like
Jalpaiguri and Gaya relate to the world in ways that are at times, different from those
of people who grow up in places like Delhi or London. Not better or worse but
different. Above all, I think we carry in ourselves a hunger for the larger world, for the
open realms of knowledge and reading that some privileged readers, having grown
up in cosmopolitan centres, can come to take for granted. If we find our step dogged
by some difficulties, for instance that of access to the latest books, we still have this
hunger to carry us forward. It is this that we have to learn to cultivate. In any situation
the lack is always balanced by a possibility, disadvantage with some possible
advantage. The way ahead in life is to be conscious of both, of disadvantages and
advantages weakness and strength. With that consciousness, you can work to
overcome your weaknesses and develop your strengths. That is what life demands
of us as students and as human beings. Nothing more, and nothing less.

12. Pandulipi .. ‘08-09’
The Magazine Club
The journey begins ...
As he stood staring out of the windows, the infant rays of the emergant sun lent
a golden spark in the horizon. With the first light of dawn he saw hope... he drew inspi-
ration. He saw dream - a passion engulfed him. He set out on the road to chase his
dream. The passion never receded; the fire raged on and on within him. The thirst was
unquenchable. Having conqured insurmountable peaks he yearned for more... and fi-
nally success embraced for him... yet the journey has just begun.
As the surreal boundaries of the dream world transcend into physical forms, we
can not help but overwhelmed by the magnanimity of this venture. The rhythmic thump-
ing of words and the vibrant hues of pastels lets loose a stream of thoughts that are
tamed only by lines etched on paper, Au the great and miraculous feats of human art
and achievements at which we look with awe praise and wonder are only instances of
the restless forces of enthusiasm, dedication and preservance.
Actually when we were given the opportunity to perform the duty of it, secretary
of the Magazine club, we, at that very instant were in a bit trouble about performing the
though job. That time we followed the policy to encourage the fresheres to join us. We
emphasised on 1st year entry. We tried our best to reach to all of them. we, infact tried
to create a family like environment in the club, where there will be no junior- senior
barrier. We are proud to say that our strength is our enthusiastic members. Now we
can rely on Avijit and Sumanta (both from 2nd yr. EE). becase of their hard work,
creative thinking etc. we must be thankful to our friends Prabhat, Prakash, Santanab,
Rajdeep, Malini, Moumita, Mousumi for their hearty support. Thanks Arnab, Payel, Sayanho
for your dedication. Wish you all the best for your life. Anyone can learn from exerience
- the costly and time consuming process of trial and error. But the better way is to learn
and get benefitted from the experience of others who have travelled our way before .
Yes, thanks to Bidesda, debarshida, Souvikda for showing us the way. This time we
have included many new sections in the magazine such as Alumni section, JOKES,
helpdesk and much more ideas have been implemented.
‘NIRAJA’s - the essence of thoughts is much more than a magazine. It is a
journey through the reverberating echelaus of a much revered institution. It is an effort to
capture creative prowess to envirion the throb of a pulsating campus life. It is the can-
vas portraying the diverse hues of the limitless horizons of imagination - a plunge into
the awe inspiring crevices of technology. It is a glimpse of the sundry moments that left
as in awe. we are indeed ingratiated by the unsisting suport of everyone involved in this
venture and we would be renging our duties if we fail to take cognizance of their integral
role in transforming this NIRJAS dream in reality. Lastly, if this ‘NIRJAS’ can satisfy its
readers, then it will be matter of pride for PANDULIPI 08-09’. Thank you all...

33. SAVAGE HUMAN
Pema Doma Yolma
(1st Year, IT)
What a great gift can you give a child?
what consoling hope have you to make a widow smile?
Have you any words that can build a broken dream ?
Are you the saviour for all that suffer and screan?
A man is a man only if he knows his human
Then why shatter a mother and slaughter her children?
The world is a rock, you wish still to conquer ?
When victory is yours, you’ll have nothing you can show
To wreck a dream to snatch a smile Just Call Me ...
To wipe out hope is all you desire
For such as these thele is only one thing to say
Hasan Mustafa
“God bless those who kill” (2nd Year - ME)
For them a pray
If one day you feel
Listen, for your soul will speak like crying, call me
Fal all the blunders you’ll lose you sleep I don’t promise that I will
This is very true, what sow you recap make you laugh, but
Spale your laughter, you peace you’ll need. I can cry with you.
If one day you want to
run away don’t be afraid
to call me.
can’t promis to ask you
to stop
But i can run away
with you.
If one day you don’t want
to listen to anyone call me
I promise to be there
for you, and I promise
to be very quiet.
But if one day you call
and there is no anwer
come fast to see me,
May be I need you,
May be I am dead.

39. Hear the soul cries here
Sourav Sen
(3rd Yr. Electrical Engg.)
Wanted to dwell in a calm Earth,
Wanted to play win flowers in
a peaceful morning - a few days more!
Same like a sailor who wants to sail
his boat in a calm sea.
with no extraordinary idea to
think beyond the ordinary belief ...
But alas !
Like the passage of angel’s tear...
my time was over...
I was to go !
No... please leave the alone!
... a few days more...
let me smell the air here;
Let me taste the Joy & Sorrow;
Let me ... a few days more!
Cried my heart!
Love Towards Nature
But alas! all in vain!
Too short our trip here ...
Lakra Sherpa
you were over the telephone, (First Year, C.E )
so, I had to pick the phone up...
I had to ... I had to answer your call ! For sea, blue sky or star at night
Still my heart cries ... for a shadow shaded picheres very much bright
few days more ! Height of the hills or the level soil
All have love amoung to which dwell.
Showrs speading the silence everywhere
snowcapped mountains kissing the fair
villages deeply sleeping with dew and fog
only the like, it’s the wonderful love.
It is the nature very lovely and dear
Too close in duty is very very near
Who shall alter its cycle is ride.
Many generations may perish or hide.

42. “Geometry of Life”
Amit Kumar
(3rd Yr. CSE)
They ‚say it moves in circles
No begining, no end.
Still there is a one degree obstacle
To conquer at each bend.
Life’s circles don’t turn out to be cancentric,
The geometry can be much more eccentric.
The circle is a perfection one never reaches,
The cobwebs around you hold you back.
Struggling between oblongitude and ellipricity
shufling between white, grey and black.
Love suffocates in the confines of a triangle,
the three corners remain far away.
The lines seperating them never yield.
Still these are love triangles they say...
The topmost brick of the pyramid,
Reached these by trampling the ones below.
No it stands alone at the top
why does victory feel so hollow ?
shapes change,
As fast as images in a kaleidoscope
Distorted angles result in new dimensions,
much like the seasons of derpair and hop.
You wake up to shape your life everyday.
“It moves in circles” they still say..
Santa ki shadi ek nurse se hui
Banta : Kaisi nibh rahei hai
Santa : Puch mat yaar, Jab tak sister ne kahu bolti hi nahi
