Under National Education Policy 2020, the Central and State Governments would
work together to increase the public investment in education sector and to
reach 6 percent of the GDP at the earliest.

knowledge society making both school and college education more holistic,
flexible, multidisciplinary, suited to 21st century needs and aspirations and
aimed at bringing out the unique capabilities of each individual student

UGC, AICTE to be replaced by a single Higher Education Regulator:
HIGHER EDUCATION COUNCIL OF INDIA (HECI)

free exchange of ideas on the use of technology to enhance learning, assessment,
planning, administration, etc., for both school and higher education.
14. UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION
Undergraduate education with the reintroduction of the four-year multidisciplinary
Bachelor’s DEGREE programme with degree in research and with multiple exit
options (students can exit after one year with a certificate, after two years with a
diploma, and after three years with a Bachelor’s degree).
“The 4-year multidisciplinary Bachelor’s programme, however, shall be the preferred
option since it allows the opportunity to experience the full range of holistic and
multidisciplinary education in addition to a focus on the chosen major and minors as
per the choices of the student,”.
Traditional 3 year BA, B.Sc, B.Com., and B.Voc degrees will continue.
15. POST GRADUATE EDUCATION
Higher education institutions will have the flexibility to offer different designs for
Master’s programmes.
Students with a three-year Bachelor’s degree can pursue a two-year Master’s programme,
Students with a four-year Bachelor’s degree with Research, there could be a one-year
Master’s degree program.
To enroll for a Ph.D, a Master’s degree or a 4-year Bachelor’s degree with Research shall
be required. The M.Phil programme shall be discontinued.
16. STATE SCHOOL REGULATORY AUTHORITY
An independent, state-wide, regulatory body called the
State School Regulatory Authority will be created for each state.
