& economic benefits to large
section of the society.
•In world the large section of
people are depend upon the wild
fish capture and some people are
depend on the fish culture.
3.
4. Fishing crafts and gears
Various equipment's are used by the man
to catch the fish. These are called fishing
crafts and gears.
It depend upon:
• Type of fish
• Nature of the river or sea bed &
• The available capital.
5. Fishing methods

basis of gear:
• Fishing with gears
• Fishing without gears.

catch the fish is called gears.
Craft :-Craft are used to carry the fisher
man and the gear to the fishing ground.
6. Fishing without gears
In some rivers and streams of the hills or near
dams & reservoirs. Water flows into narrow
channels & fish are caught by hands.
7. Fishing with gears
Generally this method is used for
the large scale fishing. In this
method various types of fishing
gear are used as per the
requirement and type of fish.
Examples:- hook& line, fish traps ,
nets , fish poison and electric
current.
8. Hook & line
Long lining is one of the most fuel-
efficient method.
This method is used to capture all type of
fishes and also able to perform in river,
sea, ponds, lakes etc.
The line may be set vertically in the water
column, or horizontally along the bottom.
The size of hooks is depend upon the size
of fish and their size.
9.
10. Types of lining
It can classified into three methods:
• Hand lining-It is a single fishing line method
by a single person.
• Drop lining- A drop lines have a weight at
the bottom and a float on the top.
• Long lining- It is a commercial technic that
uses a long heavy fishing line with a series of
hundred or thousand baited hook hanging from
the main line. It is operated by the boat.
14. Net
Netting is most popular method of
commercial fishing. It is used in large
scale and it is one of the most common
form of fishing.
There are many types of net. For
example- Dip net, cast net, purse net,
drag net, shore seine trawl net etc.
15. Dip net or lift net
•Dip net is a simplest method to catch the fish.
•It dipped into the water in the hope that the fish
would swim over them and lift out of the water.
•It is in several shapes: Square, rectangle, triangle
etc.
•It can categorized into four
Hela jal : small triangular
Kharra jal : large triangular
Bhesal jal : very large triangular
Khoursal jal : rectangular
17. Cast net
It is a circular net with small weights
distributed around its edge. This net is
thrown by hand in such a manner that it
spreads out into the water and sinks.
It is also called ‘ghagariya jal’ .it is look
like umbrella shape.
It is extremely used in ponds, river and sea
coast.
It can’t be used in weedy place or rocky
bottom place.
18.
19. Purse net
It is a purse shape net and operated by the
boat.
Migratory fish like Hilsa are caught by the
rectangular purse net.
It is of two type:
• Kharki jal
• Shangla jal
20. Gill net
Gill net is a large wall of net set in water .
The net consists of a head rope with floats
attached to it, and a foot rope with sinkers.
The size of the mesh is depend upon the
species to be caughtदुकानदार .क्या चाहिए?
ग्रािक . मुझे ताकत चाहिए, हििंमत चाहिए
अकल भी चाहिए।

22. Trawl net
Trawl nets are conical, bag like and work
on the principle of filtering water to catch
fish.
It is efficient for fish and prawn living at
the bottom or in mid-water.
It is operated by one or two boats.
23. Shore seine net
These are large net used for active
fishing.
In this method the fish are filtered
and brought to the shore.
It may be two types
•Fixed rampani net
•Moveable rampani net
24. Fish poison
Certain chemicals when mixed with water
effect the nervous system and paralyse the fish.
For example:- rotenone prepared from the
roots of the plants. Paralyses the fish in
10-15 minutes.
Water explosions also kill the fish in large numbers. These
methods are not used in commercial fishery as all the fish are
killed indiscriminately.
25. Electric fishing
It is new technique has been developed by using
low voltage electric current.
The fish always swim towards the positive pole
of electric current and electrode with increase
potential.
The advantage of this technique is that even the
large size fishes which escape being caught by
taking shelter under stone, rock etc. can be easily
caught.
