5. AIMS of the project . . . .
The STARTUP project aims at developing and
analysing an innovative pedagogy and
assessment approach, based on Open
Educational Resources (OER), to support the
diverse individual learning pathways and to
better assess all types of learning outcomes and
future learning needs related to
entrepreneurship competences.
6. StartUp objectives
• Set up an innovative method for evaluating
individual users learning needs in the
entrepreneurial sector
• Provide effective OER corresponding to the
actual individual learning needs
• Set up a peer-review and sharing community to
ensure the quality of the individual learning
path

Notes de l'éditeur
The StartUp project aims at becoming a smart OER gateway to entrepreneurship in Europe. It was launched in January 2013 and it's aimed at educators, students and self-learners of any age and professional background, who have an interest in enterprise and wish to develop their skills using Open Educational Rerources.
The general objective of STARTUP is to enhance the professional skills of learners (school and university teachers and students, trainers, trainees, informal and non-formal learners) using open and flexible, ICT-innovative and pedagogically-rich and tailored learning paths with a specific focus on the development, extension and expansion of entrepreneurial skills.
The specific objectives of the project are to:
· Set up an innovative method for evaluating individual users’ learning needs in the entrepreneurial sector
· Provide effective OER corresponding to individual learning needs
· Set up a peer review and sharing community to ensure the quality of individual learning paths.
PHASE 1: Research phase. Aimed at analising the training needs in the field of entrepreneurship.
As an outcome of the research phase, it has been produced the “Entrepreneurial Competences Catalogue”. The Catalogue groups competence areas into four competence areas:
“Business skills”,
“Management skills”,
“Communication skills”
“Self-development skills”.
For each competence area, a description of the competence in the entrepreneurial context and related Learning Outcomes are provided.
The system is composed by a virtual expert that simulates the behaviour of a real expert, questioning the user to collect data and carry out a multidimensional analysis on user’s training needs. The virtual expert will be able to process in a flexible and intelligent way user data such as user’s profile, user’s current competences (formal, informal and non formal), user’s learning style and other data types defined by the researchers in the design phase.
At the end of the training needs process the virtual expert will summarize user’s training needs in the entrepreneurship field recommending an optimal training path (made by OERs) to be pursued to achieve professional goals and new competences with an estimate of the time for their achievement.
MAIN COMPONENTS
1) Expert system (Virtual expert)
The Virtual Expert aims at simulating a real expert in order to conduct, in a flexible and smart way, a multidimensional analysis on user’s training needs, taking into account data such as personal interests, age, educational background, prior knowledge and other personal elements.
The virtual expert, embedded in the StartUP system, offers an online environment to deliver to the user a personalized OER training path that fits as closely as possible to the user’s training needs. A rating system will be set up to allow the user community to evaluate the OERs in terms of quality and relevance.
2) Authoring system
The system will allow all users to take an active part in the process of development / localization / remix of OERs.
3) Rating System (Online community)
The launch of the online community will stimulate discussions among the target group and promote collaborative and peer to peer learning. The community will be set up also to collect feedback on the quality of the training paths by means of a rating system
The virtual community aims at several objectives:
Hosting the personalized training paths.
Stimulating discussions among the members of the community to promote collaborative learning and peer to peer learning.
Allowing the rating by the users of the training paths. The objective is to refine users’ training needs defined by the virtual expert.
Enabling users, especially trainers, to modify / develop / localize OER and upload them into a repository created specifically for the project.
