Writing Goal
Grade 9-10
Create literary texts that demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of texts of
recognized literary merit.
a. Engage in a wide range of prewriting experiences, such as using a variety of visual
representations, to express personal, social, and cultural connections and insights.
b. Identify, analyze, and use elements and techniques of various genres of literature.
c. Develop critical and interpretive texts from more than one perspective, including historical and
cultural.
d. Create poetry, stories, plays, and other literary forms (e.g. videos, art work).
Grades 11-12
Create interpretive and responsive texts to demonstrate knowledge and a sophisticated
understanding of the connections between life and the literary work.
a. Engage in using a wide range of prewriting strategies, such as visual representations and the
creation of factual and interpretive questions, to express personal, social and cultural connections
and insights.
b. Identify, analyze, and use elements and techniques of various genres of literature, such as
allegory, stream of consciousness, irony, and ambiguity, to affect meaning.
c. Develop innovative perspectives on texts, including historical, cultural, sociological, and
psychological contexts.
d. Create poetry, stories, plays, and other literary forms (e.g. videos, art work).
Speaking and Listening Goals:
Grades 9-10
Initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups,
and teacher-led) with diverse partners on, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and
expressing their own clearly and persuasively.
Grades 11-12
Present information, findings, and supporting evidence, conveying a clear and distinct
perspective, such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning, alternative or opposing
perspectives are addressed, and the organization, development, substance, and style are
appropriate to purpose, audience, and a range of formal and informal tasks.
Listening Goals
Grade 9-10
Acquire and use accurately general academic and domain-specific words and phrases, sufficient
for reading, writing, speaking, and listening at the college and career readiness level;
demonstrate independence in gathering vocabulary knowledge when considering a word or
phrase important to comprehension or expression.
Grade 11-12
Acquire and use accurately general academic and domain-specific words and phrases, sufficient
for reading, writing, speaking, and listening at the college and career readiness level;
demonstrate independence in gathering vocabulary knowledge when considering a word or
phrase important to comprehension or expression.
Math Goals
Integrated Algebra Goals ( in increasing order of difficulty)
• Solve equations that involve the addition, subtraction, multiplication and/or
division of signed numbers
• Solve equations by correctly using the order of operations
• Factor a trinomial in the form ax2
+ bx + c; a=1 and c having no more than three
sets of factors
• Solve linear inequalities by combining like terms, using the distributive property,
or moving variables to one side of the inequality (include multiplication or division
of inequalities by a negative number)
• Solve quadratic equations by inspection (e.g., for x^2 = 49), taking square roots,
completing the square, the quadratic formula and factoring, as appropriate to the
initial form of the equation. Recognize when the quadratic formula gives complex
solutions and write them as a ± bi for real numbers a and b.
• Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable, including equations with
coefficients represented by letters.
• Solve systems of linear equations exactly and approximately (e.g., with graphs),
focusing on pairs of linear equations in two variables.
Geometry
• Know and apply that if a line is perpendicular to
each of two intersecting lines at their point of
intersection, then the line is perpendicular to the
plane determined by them
• Know and apply that through a given point there
passes one and only one plane perpendicular to a
given line
• Know and apply that through a given point there
passes one and only one line perpendicular to a
given plane
• Know and apply that if a line is perpendicular to a
plane, then every plane containing the line is
perpendicular to the given plane
Trig/Algebra 2
• Factor polynomial expressions completely, using any combination of the
following techniques: common extraction, different of two perfect squares,
quadratic trinomials
• Apply the rules of exponents to simplify expressions involving negative and/or
fractional exponents
• Factor polynomial expressions completely, using any combination of the
following techniques: common extraction, different of two perfect squares,
quadratic trinomials
• Apply the rules of exponents to simplify expressions involving negative and/or
fractional exponents
