4. What is
Gutenberg?
“Gutenberg” is the codename
for the 2017 WordPress
editor focus. The goal of this
focus is to create a new post
and page editing experience
that makes it easy for anyone
to create rich post layouts.
5. The editor will endeavour to create a new
page and post building experience that
makes writing rich posts effortless, and has
“blocks” to make it easy what today might
take shortcodes, custom HTML, or “mystery
meat” embed discovery.
8. Gutenberg looks at the editor as more than
a content field, revisiting a layout that has
been largely unchanged for almost a
decade. This allows us to holistically design
a modern editing experience and build a
foundation for things to come.
9. ➔ The block unifies multiple interfaces. If we add that on top of the existing interface, it would add
complexity, as opposed to remove it.
➔ By revisiting the interface, we can modernize the writing, editing, and publishing experience, with
usability and simplicity in mind, benefitting both new and casual users.
➔ When singular block interface takes center stage, it demonstrates a clear path forward for developers to
create premium blocks, superior to both shortcodes and widgets.
➔ Considering the whole interface lays a solid foundation for the next focus, full site customization.
➔ Looking at the full editor screen also gives us the opportunity to drastically modernize the foundation,
and take steps towards a more fluid and JavaScript powered future that fully leverages the WordPress
REST API.
Here's why...
10. ➔ It’s open source
➔ A richer more detailed user experience
➔ User Templates
➔ Replaces shortcode hell
➔ A solid, common foundation for themes and plugins
➔ DIY (Build your own blocks)
➔ All your site are belong to us
Benefits of Gutenberg (IMHO)
11. ➔ Gutenberg is not only about editing post’s content. This is the first step which starts the longer process.
➔ From the technical perspective it was easier to focus on the smaller scope, but it was designed to
support future ideas like editing full page templates and integrations with the Customizer.
➔ We are already exploring the ways how Gutenberg can be used to create page templates from the
browser without the need to using php template files, which is another exciting part for the users.
Benefits of Gutenberg (cont)
12. ➔ Is Gutenberg the future of WordPress?
➔ When will Gutenberg be shipped with WordPress?
➔ Will I/my users be forced to use Gutenberg?
➔ What about Divi/Beaver Builder/Elementor etc?
➔ What can I do to make sure the Gutenberg I get is the Gutenberg I want?
