“PTC Creo brings further 3D
analysis in MCAD in addition to the
ECAD analyses which are currently
limited to 2D electrical compliance
checks of one electronic board
alone.”

I n i t i a t i v e s
• Improve time to market by
increasing designers’ productivity in
compliance checks
• Manage late stage design iterations
and identify potential issues early in
the process to reduce costs

products requiring more exhaustive
electrical path checks
R e s u l t s
• Schneider Electric doubled its
productivity using PTC Creo for
electrical compliance checks, but
still manages some standard
electrical compliance checks by
other means
• PTC Creo raised early electrical
non-compliance detection rate from
70% to 100%

Before using PTC Creo, there was 1 chance over 3 to identify a creepage distance problem at product manufacturing stage, and, as a consequence, to delay the project by one month, which corresponds to a cost of approx. 100 000 €.
The way Schneider Electric performs today electrical compliancy checks on printed circuit copper tracks is for the moment a workaround implying to transfer copper tracks from ECAD software to PTC CAD tool via idf files, that is not a market-standard. Schneider Electric counts on the IDX standard support in PTC Creo to have a more unified process, which is expected in PTC Creo 4.0 release.
PTC Creo Spark Analysis also facilitates the clearance and creepages documentation and report process. It helps comprehensively identifying and quantifying clearance and creepage non-compliancies.
Regression studies are also significantly facilitated and helps maintain the products even if the teams are different.
