Sample WBS Dictionary Entry 01 August 2009 Project title: Operation Office PC WBS Item Number: 3.4 WBS Item Name: Install software Description: The software environment is critical to the success of entire project. The project team decide to use windows XP as the operation system. All general softwares will be installed on XP platform while the server will allow little support for other platform to log in as required. The operation system will be installed using windows server active directory file distribution system after all computers in the office were correctly assembled and networked cable connected. This is to ensure operation system installation process was under administration and been uniform in the entire organization. It is also to ensure the time constraint been met by using such approach. The project manager and technician will be responsible for the installation and attend or minor system adjustment. Additional system configuration maybe required. It is also required that all processes been documented according to the SOP. The project team will produce the SOP and other related documents before the installation commence and a preparation meeting will be called a week before. All work related paper works and emails will be documented. WBS Item Number: 3.6 WBS Item Name: Building Image Description: The purpose of building image is to ensure the disaster recovery process can be done in a timely manner. The scope of image is to be adjusted in conjunction with the risk management plan. The project team will ensure the image is built after successfully installed software platforms. There will be two image be built according to SOP. The first copy is to build a plain image only for operation system. This is to ensure a clean genuine copy of XP backup. The second copy is built after the corporate softwares are being installed in the XP platform. This is to ensure the recovery of the standard work environment in timely manner and can be conducted with minimum impact to the business. The second copy need to be use first in case systems break down happens. Two copies of each image should be produced and both copies need to be done using DVD-R disc. The two set of copy will be stored in different geographic location. It is also required to update the documents once the image been built in order to keep a record for future reference. The server image is not included in this item’s scope and will be detailed separately in the SOP server chapter.
