Sharon DeCarlo, C.A.G.S., is a senior literacy associate at PCG
Education. Her extensive experience in public education informs
her work in consulting with school and district administrators
and teams, providing professional development, and developing
curriculum aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Her
current projects include serving as PCG Education’s lead ELA writer
for Connecticut Systems of Professional Learning for Common
Core Coaches. She also provides professional development for the
Maine Content Literacy Project, as well as working with schools and
districts in Massachusetts on a variety of literacy-related projects.
Previously, she led the writing team for PCG’s NY State curriculum,
grades 9-12. She has designed standards-based curriculum with
several school districts in Massachusetts. Ms. DeCarlo has also
conducted Response to Intervention (RtI) reviews and developed
action plans. She worked with a team at PCG Education to write a
Secondary Literacy Framework for the state of Indiana.
EXPERIENCE
Ms. DeCarlo has more than 25 years of teaching and administrative
experience in K–12 education. Her areas of expertise include PK-
12 ELA and literacy, Common Core Standards, writing and aligning
curriculum, professional learning communities, and systems of tiered
instruction and intervention (RtI). Prior to joining PCG Education,
Ms. DeCarlo was an elementary classroom teacher and secondary
English teacher in New York for ten years. Upon relocating to
Massachusetts, she served as a middle school literacy specialist and
district English Language Arts curriculum specialist for eight years
and as school and district administrator for 12 years. Her most
recent position prior to PCG was Executive Director of Instructional
Programs in the Newton, MA Public Schools.

EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND AFFILIATIONS
Ms. DeCarlo earned a B.A. in elementary education/English at the
University of Rhode Island, an M.S. in the Reading Certification
Program at College of New Rochelle, an M.S. in elementary
education at Western Connecticut State University, and a C.A.G.S.
in administration, training, and policy studies at Boston University.
She is licensed as a superintendent/assistant superintendent, and
reading specialist.
