Monthly earnings = Rs. 2000/-

3. Stays with 10 yr old grandson in a
2 room (kitchen cum bathroom +
bedroom) tiled house
Rent = 600/- per month
Electricity Bill = 120/- per month
Carries water from the Municipal
Supply Tap (in the street) to stock
in buckets and drums

5. PDS (Public Distribution System)
Monthly provisions of 30 kg rice
and 12 liters kerosene against
Ration Card
Rice @ Rs.3/kg (but grains are
thick and inedible)
“If the cooked rice starts to smell,
then we sell the rice to the local
kirana shop and procure rice at
Rs.19/kg”

6. Kerosene @ Rs.12/liter (not
available in Hyderabad PDS. Has
to travel to her village PDS –
Pemelli, Mehboobnagar District for
it)
Bus Travel expense is Rs.80/- to
her village.

black market at Rs.25/liter

11. Suffers from BP and Sugar. Procures Tablets for BP from her village. Has tackled sugar by drinking
‘Kakarkaya Juice’ for a whole 6 months.
Would ask for tablets from the local pharmacist for minor illnesses like dysentery etc.

12. Phone numbers of daughters are
written on the doorway with chalk.

13. Will travel to the Niloufer Govt Hospital(12 kms away in the city) for major illnesses/surgeries.
Eg: child births for elder daughter. Overall Expenses Rs.5000/-. Rs600/- for 2 bottles of blood. No
doctor charges.
For emergencies, she has to go to Anand Rao Private Hospital (close to her home)
A government doctor from the city visits her village once a month. She would go to her village to avail
the free medical checkup (if required).
