4. LAN

A LAN is a computer network limited to a small
area such as an office building, university, or
even a residential home. Most mid to large-sized
businesses today use LANs, which makes it easy
for employees to share information.

5. WAN

A network that connects two or more local-area
networks over a potentially large geographic
distance.

6. MAN
A metropolitan area network is a network that
connects two or more local area networks or
campus area networks together but does not
extend beyond the boundaries of the immediate
town/city.

7. TOPOLOGIES


A topology describes the configuration of a
communication network.
A topology describes the physical and the logical
interconnection between the different nodes of a
network.

Ring Topology

Star Topology

Bus Topology
All nodes are connected to a single communication line that carries
messages in both directions .
Mesh Topology
In Mesh Topology each node is connected to every other node.
