The picture doubles as my quote because all of us have to potential to be the change in the world. Good character isn&#x2019;t something that only a few people have, we all can achieve it, it&#x2019;s just how badly we want it. It&#x2019;s how bad we want to see the change.\n

Character Education is one&#x2019;s willingness to go out and d god and make choices good for not only themselves, but for the good of everybody else in the world as well.\n
Responsibility- being good for your own word and following through with tasks having a sense of commitment, dependability and reliability \n\nPerseverance- accomplishing tasks using determination and patience while owning up to your failures and using them to make you stronger \n\nCaring- Showing understanding of others by treating them with kindness, compassion, generosity and a forgiving spirit\n\nSelf-discipline- Demonstrating hard work controlling your emotions, words, actions, impulses and desires. Giving your best in all situations\n\nCitizenship- Being law abiding and involved in service to school, community and country\n\nHonesty-Telling the truth, admitting wrongdoing. Being trustworthy and acting with integrity\n\n\n
Hundreds of thousands f kids suffer from these things every year and character education can help them feel less alone and allow them to be more willing to talk about what is wrong\n\nYou are never alone in this world, no matter what you think, no matter how bad things are, there is always going to either ben somebody who has been through it, seen it, has it happening to them, or is willing to give you the time needed to help.\n
females suffer from depression more than males\n\nmales are less likely to seek help due to the whole &#x201C;no emotion&#x201D; factor\n\n2/3 of teens suffer from another mental disorder, most commonly dysthymia.\n\n\n
risky sexual behavior such as multiple partners or unprotected sex\n\ndepressed teens catch physical illness easier than others\n\ndepression causes teens to be 12 times more likely to kill themselves\n\n80% of depressed teens can be treated even though only 33% actually look for help\n

In a class of 25, 5 kids have thought of killing themselves and at least 2 have attempted. \n\nstatistics show that female teens are more likely to think about killing themselves but males are 4 times more likely to actually do it\n\none teenager kills themselves almost every five minutes meaning at the end of this presentation around 6 kids our age will have died.\n\n\n
teens are more likely to kill themselves if there are guns in their home and they have access to them and majority of the time they will kill themselves in their own homes.\n\n1/3 teen suicides have tired before actually succeeding\n\n90% of suicidal teens had suffered from depression or had problems with alcohol/drug abuse\n\nSuicide is said to have a genetic component, meaning if you have a close relative with thoughts of suicide then that makes you more likely to have the thoughts as well\n\nsuicide prevention lifeline serves over 45,000 callers a month\n\n

about 40% of kids go through a divorce in their lives.\n\nkids from divorced families are 70% more likely to have a hard time in school or even staying in\n\n50% of all first marriages fail and 70% of all second marriages fail\n\n
over 33% of kids from divorced families drop out of school\n\nKids have guilt thinking that the divorce was their fault or that the could have prevented it\n\nfemales are harmed more then males \n\nwhen there is no father boys often do worse in school and same thing with girls\n
Separation anxiety is when i child feels uncomfortable or scared when they have left their home of parent.\n\n2-5% of child suffer\n\nthis is so hard to diagnose because normally if a child have separation anxiety they will have another type of anxiety\n
some symptoms of a child with separation anxiety would be not \n\nwanting to leave the house\n\nrefusal to go to school\n\ntrouble sleeping alone and nightmares of being separated\n\nfake stomach aches and other basic sicknesses to stay home\n
no confidence because they are out of their safety zone\n\nkids will have a harder time doing school work because they will want to be \n\nofften times this can lead to depression and attention problems\n

Daggett= relationship are important. lessons should relate to students and be new knowledge for them. Change in the climate of the school and brought about better relationships to students and teachers\n\n\nA public speaker that promotes character education in schools\n\nfun and energetic approaches are his big ideas\n\nbelieves that kids and teachers should have a good connection that encourage fun learning to connect with each other more\n
the School Board of Broward County, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida has adopted eight character traits, one for each month: \nCooperation (September)\nRespect (January)\n\n\nThey have posters about character education hanging around the school to remind the kids\n\nReward the kids when they show the traits and take time to recognize them normally a pencil of sticker\n\nPicture in background is from Lebanon in Missouri. More strict with their programs, it seems like they force it upon kids in hopes that it will work\nThe Swain School in Allentown, PA\nEach month, a different virtue is highlighted with special activities, writing opportunities, all-school assemblies, and 'teachable moments'. \n2010-2011 are tolerance/acceptance, forgiveness, thankfulness, reverence, justice, loyalty, perserverance, stewardship, and peacefulness.\nBirthday Groups - where everyone (students, staff, and faculty) - born in a particular month meet for activities and fellowship. These relationships promote a special kind of bond among our students, building leadership and friendship.\nSwain School Eight grade Community Service Project.\nKids in eighth must spend eight hours of community service on 1 project and present it to the school in a media format. Kind of like on SGP in 8th grade\n\n
this school&#x2019;s students have an actual character education class\n\nseniors will go to middle schools or freshmen classes and teach the kids on character education \n\nif seniors do not want to teach then they have a class on life skills like finance, driving safety etc.\n\nCharacter-Centered teaching program.... \n\nkids &#x201C;shadow&#x201D; adults with jobs and observe their character and learn about ethics \n\n
in 1997 Stuart High School was filled with gangs and racial problems\n\nDr. Mel Riddile came along....\n\nhe was the orchestra leader and a cheerleader\n\nwon the 2006 NASSP National Principal of the Year because of his energy and ability to change the school \n\nPrincipal&#x2019;s Executive Council is a group of students that meet with the principal once a month and talk about what is going on around the school and they think of ideas that can help the school\n
\nCoC= UM 14 yrs ago Morbac (principal at the time)\n--- school isn&#x2019;t about subject but Universal use developing character (use traits of character education)\n--- Um chose CoC because they could work under the umbrella it just give a good frame\n--- five points are from national program \n--- like a way to live at UM\n\n\n\n

If I have learned anything while doing this project it is that there is no definite definition for Character Education. Everybody has different ideas on what it is and everybody displays their views of character education differently.\n
