2. Carol asks…
Can an LH urine test be wrong and I be ovulating anyways?
I had irregular periods, on clomid now, having regular periods. Started on Jan 18th took clomid
from the 22-26th. Started LH testing on the 29th and have been negative every morning. Today
I have cramping in the lower abd and my back…. I have some white discharge (sorry if that
sounded nasty) Can those tests not detect LH or are they fool proof???
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
Let me tell you, I was taking them and I never got a positive. I read that thtey are not always
accurate. I know I ovulated b/c of all the other symptoms. I’m not using them anymore, i’m just
going to trust my body.

3. Please let me know what exactly is LH test?
Can anyone tell me in simple layman language as to what exactly is a LH test and why is it
done, what are effects of the same.. Please dont give my any website addrs i have gone
through it, i wont it in a simple language
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
The luteinizing hormone (LH) test is a test of the blood or urine to measure the level of
luteinizing hormone (lutropin). This hormone level is highest immediately before a woman
ovulates during her menstrual cycle.
The LH test is frequently used to determine the timing of ovulation. Couples who are trying to
become pregnant may use information about the timing of ovulation to improve their chance of
conception. The LH test and other hormone tests may be used during infertility screening to
chart a woman’s menstrual cycle. It may also be used during preparation for in vitro fertilization,
to determine when eggs are mature and ready to be removed from the ovary. There are no
significant risks associated with either the blood or urine test for LH. Normal results The level of
LH in the blood or urine will vary depending on when the sample was taken during the
menstrual cycle. LH levels will be highest around the time of ovulation, about halfway between a
woman’s menstrual periods. Levels will be lower during the rest of the month. Women who
have already experienced menopause will normally have lower LH levels. Abnormal results LH
levels that remain low throughout the menstrual cycle may indicate a hormonal imbalance that
could prevent ovulation. Additional testing may be required if this test is done as part of an
infertility screening. Hope this helps

4. Can a ovulation predictor test- LH tell whether you are pregnant or
not?
I asked my friend for a pregnancy test and this is what she gave me. Will this tell me if I am
pregnant or not? Or does it just tell if you are ovulating?
Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
Some people say it does test for pregnancy
but they test only for LH surges not for hCG
so go buy a pregnancy test if possible
Nancy asks…
What do my test results for lh and fsh mean?
i had my lh and fsh hormones tested. my lh was 18.7 and fsh was 5.2. what does that mean? at
the time of these tests i was convinced i was having a misscarriage bc i had all symptoms of
pregnancy and a heavy period with tissue in it. still not sure about that

5. Pregnancy Advisor’s answers:
Those hormones tell you nothing about whether you are/were pregnant or not. Only an HCG
level will tell you about pregnancy.
If the lh and fsh levels were taken on cycle day 3 (day 3 of bleeding) then your LH is high and is
a possible indicator that you may have PCOS. Normally, the lh and fsh ratio should be about
1:1. When its 3:1 or higher, PCOS is suspected.
Lisa asks…
The ovulation test is positive 1 month after my abortion. Can the
LH hormon be confused with the hCG hormon?
I had the abortion and it is almost 1 month since than. I did an ovulation test today and it shows
positive. I am wondering if that is because I am really ovulating, or because I maybe still have
the pregnancy hormon hCG in my urine which (is it possible???) might show on my ovulation
test instead of the LH hormon which is present during ovulation? Thank you!
