3. • These weekly planners can be used with
children from the age of three. For the younger
children you may have to repeat the resources
more often and our advice is that you go at the
pace of the children in your care.
EaziTeach™
4. There are hundreds of digital resources on
The Family Africa resource kit
• but we realise it can be overwhelming to go
through and choose which resources will work best
and in what order of difficulty. These weekly
planners are to help you have everything at your
fingertips for each week. You will need a screen
either attached to a computer or an android phone
which will work with a SMART TV.
EaziTeach™
5. • We have made a rough outline of the day
which you can adapt to your needs and
timings. However we wanted to include the
whole range of activities which you should
include in your day so that you do not get the
impression that everything can be done on a
TV screen.
EaziTeach™
6. Not a baby sitting device!
• In no way is it babysitting device where you can
leave the children on their own. The resources
require the teacher to not just be present but to be
actively involved asking questions, drawing the
children out to speak and to understand new
concepts and put them into action in concrete ways
in the classroom.
EaziTeach™
7. Although the teachers are using the screen
they are also using actions and flash cards
8.
9. Important note:
• Please teach the children how to
point to words and pictures on the
screen without touching it as this
may damage it.
EaziTeach™
10. Let’s look at Week 1 of the weekly
planners
• and I will include more detail so you
understand the expected teacher’s and the
child’s involvement
EaziTeach™
11. Please note
• that after each title, in brackets I
have written where you can find
them on the resource kit.
EaziTeach™
12. Optional: Bible story, verse or Character Building story (see Faith
and Character building folder)
• Explanatory comments: There are a lot of excellent
faith building stories and character building stories
with questions and answers. You can show the
picture and tell the story in your own words (home
language) but do include the questions and
discussions points as the idea is to get the children
thinking deeply about the topics.
• There are also faith building videos .
EaziTeach™
13. Introduce language words and
phrases.
• . Every week there will be simple,
useful phrases for the children to
learn in English e.g. Hello, How are
you? I’m fine thank you
EaziTeach™
14. Language words and phrases
• Explanatory Comments . It is important to give lots of
practice with these phrases. The teacher says Hello.
How are you? You ask the children to repeat the
answer: I’m fine thank you. You then go round the
class asking each child: Hello, How are you are you?
The child says: I’m fine thank you. And then get
children to ask you and you give the answer and so
on. Also review the phrases from previous weeks as
well.
EaziTeach™
15. • Children can learn languages quickly if the
given the opportunity and lots of practise!
There are a lot of PowerPoints to help you
with the phrases.
• There is a folder called ESL which stands for
• English as a Second Language
16. Literacy: Talkabout People (Folder
Literacy. Talkabout)
• Explanatory comments: The talkabout books are
fantastic resources and are there to get the children
talking. At first this will be difficult and you will use
their home language to ask questions and allow
them to answer in their home language. However
also repeat questions in English and try to get them
to learn all the vocabulary in English.
EaziTeach™
17.
18.
19. Talkabout continued
• Even though I have put the Talkabout books under
literacy they also cover counting, size, shape, colour,
matching, patterns, sequencing. Plus they contain a
whole theme on which you can build such as parks,
animals, towns, countryside etc. This means you can
add to the theme through making table displays,
posters etc.
EaziTeach™
20. Building Vocabulary: Body Parts (Folder
Literacy, Words and Pictures)
• Explanatory comments: The idea is to build English
vocabulary every day. These simple drawings with words
help to build vocabulary and also begin to show the
children the connection between the written word and the
spoken word. Please do not try to build the words
phonetically or expect the child to read the words just say
the words as you point to the word and the picture.
EaziTeach™
21.
22. Simple Reader: My Family (Folder
Literacy, Sight readers,Simple Readers)
• Explanatory Comments: The simple readers are
teaching sight words through pictures and
repetition. Only cover one story a week even
though there are two or three in each book. When
you start a new story from the same book, please
review the previous story before starting the new
one. Please point to the individual words as you
read them to the children
EaziTeach™
23. Then ask a child to come up and point to the words as
you read them.
• Teach them to point to each word and read
from left to right. After two or three days, see
if the children can read them on their own. If
not just continue to point to each word as you
read it until they get the idea. This should not
be like memorising a poem. This is to build the
connection between written word and spoken
word.
EaziTeach™
24. Repeat, repeat
• Also through the repetition of the same
words, the children will begin to recognise the
most frequently used words in the English
language such as the, I, like see, a etc. many of
which are difficult to learn by sounding them
out phonetically.
25. Please note:
• the books in the folder have the title
named after the sight word they are
introducing. e.g.” My family” is just
called (my) and contains other
stories repeating the word “my”
26. Letter Sounds or Phonics (Folder
Literacy, Literacy Powerpoints.)
• Explanatory Comments: To begin with in the early
lessons you will be using the PowerPoints of the
alphabet which concentrate on the sounds and the
children will learn how to identify words which start
with those sounds. Where it says just do “ a-d” it
means just do 4 sounds a week, otherwise you will
overloading the children and always review the
previous week’s sounds before starting the next set.
This section will also include an app “Jolly phonics”
and other resources as the weeks go by.
27. What’s the difference between…
•Sight reading based
programmes and
• Phonic based
programmes?
28. Sight Reading
• Sight reading programmes teach the children
to look at the whole word and memorise the
shape. As English it not a very phonetic
language this can be a great way to learn all
the most frequently used words in English. It
also speeds up reading especially in the early
stages and makes comprehension easier.
29. Phonic based
• These reading programmes concentrate on
teaching the sounds and then encourage the
child to build up the words from the sounds.
This is helpful in learning new words which
the child has never seen before.
• You will find on the resource kit there are two
folders , one for Phonic based and another for
Sight reading. I have included both methods
of teaching reading in the planners.
30. Numeracy: Vroom Vroom, Beep, Beep,
(Folder Numeracy: Maths Start)
Do activities listed in book.
Count objects in classroom 1-5
The suggested activities are
excellent so please make use of
them!
31. Explanatory comments: In the numeracy folder you will
find the Maths Start books.
• They are an excellent graded curriculum to cover the
different mathematical concepts which we have
covered in the Numeracy workshop e.g the concept
of number, counting, colours, shapes and, size,
positional vocabulary such as : under, over . There
are activities at the back of each book so that you
can extend this book into a whole class. Please do
read the suggested activities and include some of
them in your day
32. Numeracy PowerPoint; Three sleepy Sheep
(Folder Numeracy, Numeracy Powerpoints)
• We have included a PowerPoint each
week to help with numeracy concepts.
Some are very short and can be repeated
a few times each day of the week they
are on the weekly planner.
EaziTeach™
33. Handwriting : Airwriting the letter a
while repeating the sound a.
• Explanatory comments: Airwriting is covered
in detail for each letter in the folder: Literacy,
Phonic Based Reading schemes, Alphabetti
reading and writing course, Handwriting.
Basically you draw the letter in the air with
your back to the children so they see it the
right way round and say the sound and they
copy you.
EaziTeach™
34. Handwriting activities
• Look for things starting with a ( Please use the sound
of the letter not the name ) In the classroom find
things which start with a I spy game etc. I spy with
my little eye something beginning with a
• Paper and pencil time write the letter a
• Draw picture of apple. Colouring etc
EaziTeach™
35. For Hand eye Coordination. See Activity List
(Folder Family Africa Teachers workshop notes)
• Additional Comments. As I said earlier the day should
be very interactive so choose some activities where
the child is developing hand eye coordination which
is very important for learning how to write and also
for basic life skills such as fastening buttons and tying
shoe laces etc. You will also find pictures of simple
hand eye coordination equipment you can make
yourself in the folder: Hand Eye Coordination.
38. For Outdoor activities see Activity list. (Folder
Family Africa Teachers workshop notes)
• Encourage the development of gross
motor skills even if you have very
little space.
EaziTeach™
41. For Story time
• . Choose some big colourful books from the library
every week. Please join the local library. Story telling
is very important and the more children are read to
the more they will develop the necessary skills for
reading.
• Or choose a video from the folder Educational
videos. There are a lot of videos for the children to
enjoy which also teach important concepts in this
folder.
42. Repeat all activities every day for the
week..
• On Friday check if individual learners have learned
the concepts by simple question and answer session.
• This is very important so you know whether you
need to repeat any sections next week or go slower.
• On the other hand the children do not have to be
able to remember everything as the programme will
repeat sections and activities throughout the year.
EaziTeach™
43. Explanatory Comments.
• If you use all these resources mentioned in
the weekly planners every day for a week,
hopefully by Friday they will have grasped
most of them. It is a huge amount of material
so you may feel you want to repeat the same
resources next week as well. As the children
understand more and more you will find they
get quicker at remembering the words and the
concepts.
EaziTeach™
44. • Having a little quiz and feedback time at the
end of Friday morning will give you an idea
how well the children have processed the
material. This feedback time should be fun
and always, ALWAYS give lot so praise and
encouragement. Learning at this age should
be lots of fun!
EaziTeach™
45. Now let’s take a look!
• At examples of resources and also
putting the curriculum into action!
EaziTeach™
46. Thank you!
• We hope you enjoy using EaziTeach and that
it makes your teaching more successful and
lots of fun for the children!
