The video i am analysing is the
Nicki Minaj No Frauds, this track
features Drake and Lil Wayne, it is
a diss track in response to hip-hop
artist Remy Ma’s "Shether" a 7
minute diss track aimed at Nicki.

4. Genre Characteristics
The characteristics that are
associated with Hip/Hop Rap is the
idea of flaunting your wealth and
jewelry which is exactly what this
music video did. Nicki appears to
be wearing an excessive amount of
jewelry. There is also always a
link from the lyrics to the
visuals. For example she sings
“what the f*** is this b****
inhaling” and there is a shot of a
girl smoking.

5. performance based music video
This is a performance based
video as they focus more on the
costume and location, also
there is no narrative included
as it is a diss track response
to Remy Ma. The locations are
very high budget as she films
in the big landmarks within
London. There are a lot of
different shots of Nicki which
also shows that it is
performance based.

6. General Technical Aspects
The video is 5 minutes long
There are around 300 different shots and about 10 of them are
repeated, there are 3 performers within the video, Drake
Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne. Then there are a group of people
dancing in some of the shots. Nicki has a total of 4 costume
changes. There are also 8 different locations used within the
music video. The video is kept interesting through the use of
multiple locations, costumes and salt and pepper movements.

7. Is there intertextual references?
There is an intertextual reference towards Remy Ma’s diss
track towards Nicki as Nicki mentions multiple different
things snapping back at her rivals diss track. For example
mentioning ghost writers, cosmetic surgeries and male
significant others.

8. Conclusion and evaluation
All in all this music video is a solely a performance based
video with focus around location and costume. Another thing
about this music video that stands out is the editing pace as
it fits in with the pace of the song. As usual this hip/hop
rap vid
