7. CASES HEARD
Summary offences, which are less serious
cases such as motoring offences and drunk
and disorderly.
Either-way offences, which can either be
dealt by the magistrates or crown court
these are more serious cases like burglary
and drug offences.
Indictable-only offences, which start in the magistrates’ court but can
only be heard by crown court. It will be the magistrates who decide
whether the defendant should be kept in custody within a police or
court cell or let out with restrictions until the case is heard by the
crown court, these are the most serious of cases like murder and
rape.
