Health unit of mother:
Is a special service available for promoting health, preventing health problems, and
maintaining health of community. (Especially mothers)
The objective of mother health unit:
1. Decreasing mortality rate.
2. Decreasing fetus abnormalities.
3. diagnosing causes of infertility in both sides
(Male &female)
4. For early diagnosing maternal health problems.
5. For early managing mother health problems.
6. Monitoring fetal growth and normal development of fetus .
7. For preventing the occurrence of health problems &complications such as PIH
,D.M…etc
8. For controlling number of births by setting a plan for that
(Contraceptives) .
Type of services provided by health unit of mother:
1. Providing Health education about pregnancy, normal physiological changes during
pregnancy, importance of nutrition for pregnant women.
2. Identifying the importance of Immunizations before, during, after pregnancy,
supporting mother to get vaccines such as tetanus vaccine.
3. Follow up registrations: weight, height, edema, F.M, F.H.R…ETC.
4. Follow up investigations such as hemoglobin level, Bp, R.B.S…ETC.
5. Supporting nutrients for mothers and fetus also identifying importance of
breastfeeding for new born babies.
6. Follow up new married couples for identifying causes of infertility.
Who is getting benefit from health unit of mother :
1. Mothers
2. Pregnant woman, fetus.
3. New married couples.
4. Community.

Benefit of health unit of mother:
To protect the life and health of mother and fetus.
Maintaining mother and fetus in best possible health condition.
Increase Mother Knowledge about pregnancy, physiological changes of
pregnancy, nutrition.
Increase Mother Knowledge about pregnancy complications and how to
prevent them in a healthy way.
Decrease the occurrence of disease.
Decrease mortality rates.
Improving health of community.
Quality of service:
Accessibility:
The community gets benefit from this kind of services ,it increase level of health
education among mothers and community individuals ,but in fact there is no
enough connection between health unit of mother and other health services such
as hospitals ,so many efforts of this unit becomes invisible to the community .
Acceptability :
This service is acceptable by Duhok community & most of mothers, new married
couples, and pregnant women, they get benefit from it, but it's not acceptable by
hospitals in Duhok city.
My suggestions:
Increasing number of mother health units.
The follow up chart should be acceptable in all health services centers,
hospitals they should complete each other in order to serve the community
in best way.
