Some notes from recent teaching sessions - they are aimed at giving more of a background / preparatory idea about how a person might move into a position to be "anointed" by God.

  4. 4. One commentator suggests that the preparation was “painstaking” It was done with great care and attention to detail.
  5. 5. Like the materials of the Tabernacle and its furnishings…the Oil of Anointment is to be painstakingly prepared by the most professional methods. And…the Oil is reserved for use only in the worship of Yahweh. Word Biblical Commentary: Exodus

  7. 7. A great deal of time and energy was taken to make sure the best was given.
  8. 8. Then the Lord said to Moses, 2 “See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, [anointed him] with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills
  9. 9. How does God prepare his people? How is he getting you ready for him to be glorified in you?
  10. 10. For the anointing oil the ingredients had to be collected / assembled. They had to be prepare and in good condition, ready for use.
  11. 11. “We all tend to go to extremes; some rely only on their own preparation and look for nothing more; others tend to despise preparation and trust to the anointing and the inspiration of the Spirit alone. But there must be no "either/or" here; it is always "both/and." These two things must go together.” Martyn Lloyd-Jones

  20. 20. Show us our weaknesses and limitations so that we can depend on God more – 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
  21. 21. Show us what is real and what is not – Peter happy to confess Jesus, follow anywhere, then denial!
  22. 22. The Time Test—how long will you wait for God at act? Abraham was 75 when left Haran—100 when promise was fulfilled Gen 17:1; 18:10
  23. 23. The Word Test When circumstances are very different to Word of God or promise received. Joseph - favourite son. Aged 17 Word of the Lord came to him, 37:5-11.
  24. 24. What followed: Betrayed Sold Seduction and accusation Thrown in prison Hope dashed
  25. 25. Stopped Joseph depending upon his own abilities. Made Joseph depend on God’s strength. Brought a greater influence upon more people at the end.
  26. 26. God is in control and uses circumstances—never think that satan is in control Temptation comes, but never beyond what you can bear 1 Cor 10:13
  27. 27. ‘It is not the circumstances that are of greatest importance, but our reactions to them.’ Amy Carmichael
  28. 28. 'यो पिरिस्थित छैन जुन सबैभन्दा महत्त्वपूणर् हो, तर उनीहरूका प्रितिक्रयाहरू।’ Amy Carmichael
