Poetry can be divided up into different forms, more easily expressing an author's emotions and intent
with their poetry. For analyzing purposes I chose the poems Self–Help by Michael Ryan, Ghazal by
Agha Shahid Ali, Psalm 150 by Jericho Brown, and Emergency by Michael Dylan Welch. Michael
Ryan's villanelle, Self–Help, follows the typical villanelle style with 19 lines, including five terrets
and a quatrain. The main storyline follows the speaker who is reprimanding a woman for blindly
falling for a man, only seeing the good in him and being naive with her marriage. With the first and
third lines stating, "What kind of delusion are you under?" (1) and "You see the lightning but not the
thunder" (3) repeating, it emphases an obsessive thought, as if a haunting motif is spread
throughout, where the author doesn't understand the protagonist's thoughts or actions. Through the
use of assonance and consonance, such as "hath" (4) and rat (5), "crown them" (11) and "baseball
bat" (11), the author uses repetition to set the mood of the poem in a negative light– setting a certain
tone. Even the title Self–Help is the author's way of communication they're done trying to help the
protagonist and it's time for that person to reflect themselves and take care of their situation. In
Ghazal by Agha Shahid Ali the form is a ghazal, which is made up of a sequence of 2–line stanzas
with an ending rhyme; each couplet is a poem in itself, emotionally completing themselves and
making no relation to other couplets. Something particular I noticed about this ghazal is the
author incorporates himself as well as others in a 3rd person view, "I'll do what I must if I'm bold
in real time" (1) versus "They left him alive so that he could be lonely" (9) by doing this Shahid Ali
gives the perspective of his pain as well as another man's loneliness. This allows for the individual
couplets to have an intermediate connection with one another as humans in solitude. By repeating
the line "in real time" at the end of each couplet the author puts a emphasis on the present– as well as
wrapping up each couplet's story, but tying it all together in the big picture. Similar to Michael
Ryan's villanelle, Shahid Ali uses assonance all throughout the

In class we discussed "saying no" being apart of our plans and I know that this is a must for me.
At times I find myself running around like a chicken with its head cutoff. If only I had the courage

Although there are several things on my list that I am cringing over I will give it my all. What

18. Self Reflection In Counselling
The counselling video provided a useful tool to self–reflect and become responsive to my
interactions with cliental. Having the ability to replay an identical interview multiple times I have
been able to build an in–depth analysis of my own strengths and weaknesses of my counselling
skills. (At 6:34 minute mark, issue exploration begins). Analysis of use of self In the beginning
phase of the counselling session I attended to the preliminary section of the meeting. I condoned a
convenient place to meet, so that my client would feel comfortable, and at ease. This is important
so that the client feels comfortable in sharing. I offered water in which the client accepted. While
attending to my client I maintained appropriate body language. I made sure to sit straight and have
my shoulders pointed directly to her, and made consistent eye contact. I wanted to place myself in a
manner that directly faced her so my client would feel like the focus was primarily on her.
Although, my personal mannerisms could have been interpreted as distracting and a loss of
objectivity. Aside from my attending body posture, I did present stiff and unrelaxed throughout most
of the session. I did not move the entire interview with the exception of my hands when I spoke,
which as a bit too often. The client attempted some humor or lightheartedness twice, which perhaps
should have invoked a smile or a mild chuckle from myself to recognize the client's effort at being
humorous. But I did not respond.

As we continue to take more difficult classes in pursuit of becoming nurses, it is easy to forget about
self–care. In an effort to prevent burn out, our group has integrated the practices of exercise and

Some members learned that adding more obligations to an already congested schedule increases their
level of stress. Other members learned they had limited patience for trying new things despite an
activity's potential beneficial effects. Lastly, some felt that because self–care in this assignment was
mandatory, it associated negativity rather than positivity in an activity that should elicit feelings
associated with individual freedom and fun. The candidate is a forty–three year old female who has
recently lost seventy–five pounds and wants to maintain a healthy weight. She does not practice any
self–care therapies and instead smokes. Teaching and learning strategies utilized between the teacher
and learner helped the client change her attitude about exercise, educate her about how exercise
could change her life and helped her adopt a new behavior that would benefit her exponentially. The

side–by–side routines. For example, the teacher would ask the client to assume a plank position for

We are able to think critically and distinguish ideas from each other. Yet these ideas are not always
stable and well–understood. As Descartes proposes the self is filled with images that might appear
true yet in reality are nothing but a false images created by our senses. The self has the ability to
understand the world outside and decide for itself which images are true and which are false.
Before making a decision the self or I uses reason to establish the possible outcome and see if it will
benefit the self. We do everything to satisfy the self. Our mind is designed especially to fulfill the
wishes, sometimes unnecessary, to make ourselves feel better. Intellingece we posses, helps us
find a right place for the self in this world. The decisions we make based on our desires to please
the self are not always beneficial and ethical. Many times we place certain unimportant values
above other more helpful and correct ones in order to fulfill temporary desires. The self is
