1. The Greek Community at the
University of Denver makes
up 21 percent of the student
population. This significant
portion has a major impact
on the entire student body.
Nationally, there are over 9
million Greek members.
2. In 1889, Greek Life
was established on
the University of
Denver’s
campus. Today the
university hosts ten
national
organizations for
men and seven
national
organizations for
women.
3. The University of Denver’s
Delta Delta Delta chapter
was created in 2000. Tri Delt
boasts 92 members.
4. A study by the University of Missouri found that Greeks throughout the US and
Canada are more involved on their campuses and rate their overall university
experience better.
5. DU welcomed Delta Zeta to
campus in 1914. DZ is one
of the largest and oldest
national sororities.
6. According to DU’s Fall 2012 grade report, the
all-Greek GPA is higher than the all-university
GPA. Nationally, Greeks tend to have higher
GPAs than non-Greeks.
7. Delta Gamma joined
DU’s campus in 1945.
The sorority’s motto is
“Do Good” and
performs a lot of
community service for
the Service for Sight
organization.
8. Delta Gamma’s national
symbol is the anchor.
Therefore, DU’s Delta
Gamma Chapter has a large
anchor outside of their
house. The anchor
symbolizes hope.
9. Gamma Phi Beta is the oldest sorority on DU’s
campus, initiating its first pledge class in 1897.
Gamma Phi also built the first sorority house in
all of Colorado.
10. “Bid day,” the day women discover which sorority they are joining,
is an exciting day for all women going through sorority rush.
“Bid day was pretty nerve-racking but I was also extremely excited
to meet all my new sisters,” sophomore Gamma Phi Beta Morgan
Thomas said.
11. Alpha Phi is DU’s newest sorority, joining
campus in the last five years. Although they
are new, their campus influence is just as
prominent as any of the other sororities.
12. University of Denver students believe that a woman’s sorority does
not determine her friend group.
“Some of my best friends are in other sororities,” sophomore
member of the Delta Gamma sorority Sophia Abuel Saud said.
