MODULAR, MULTI-MEDIA NETWORKING 14 PORT MULTI-MEDIA ETHERNET MODULE
DESCRIPTION
The LE-140XTF is a fourteen port 6U Ethernet plug-in
module for use with the MultiNet modular, multi-media,
multi-LAN active star enclosures. It provides 12 ports for
standard Unshielded Twisted Pairs (UTP) connectivity as
per the IEEE 802.3 10BaseT specification. The module
includes the Plus mode, LANNET's enhanced two way
diagnostic mechanism for 10BaseT. In addition the
LE-140XTF has two 10BaseFB fiber optic ports for
connection to a multi-level fault tolerant network backbone.
The LE-140XTF provides user selectable connection to any
one of the four Ethernet LANs available in the MultiNet
enclosures. This allows for the co-existence of multiple
independent Ethernet networks within the same hub,
reduces LAN congestion and provides flexible bridging
capabilities. A standalone mode is also available, providing
an independent 12 port segment with integrated fiber
connectivity. In addition to supporting IEEE 802.3 10BaseT
transceivers, the fiber ports can provide hub to hub
interconnection with links of up to 3000m (10,000 ft).
The LE-140XTF is manageable to MultiMan, LANNET's
advanced SNMP-based Network Management System.

MultiMan provides extensive control, monitoring and
administration of the module from the remote management
console. MultiMan offers performance and event reporting
down to the port level.
The LE-140XTF UTP ports have two user selectable modes
of operation, 10BaseT and 10BaseT Plus.
The standard 10BaseT mode implements full repeater
functionality, with auto-partitioning and receive link status
test as per the standard.
The 10BaseT Plus mode includes detection of transmit link
failures, in addition to all the features of the standard
10BaseT mode. The Plus mode is completely transparent
to 10BaseT standard equipment. Switching between
modes is done on board or by Network Management.
Partitioning of faulty segments is activated automatically to
prevent disruption of the rest of the network. Reconnection
is also automatic - when normal operation resumes.
The two fiber ports are compliant with the IEEE 802.3
10BaseFB standard for backbone links, and provide
repeaterless interconnection between hubs for reliable
network design. Networks diameters exceeding 4 km
(2.5 miles) can be implemented when using fiber optics.
The user can select one of the fiber optic ports to be a
backup to the other, enabling fault tolerant network design.
Link communication will automatically switch over to the
redundant fiber port if the link fails on the main port.
Without redundancy the two ports function independently.
LAN redundancy automatically toggles module to backup
LAN preventing disruption of communications by
malfunctioning equipment.
SPECIFICATIONS
10BaseT Ports
