MODULAR, MULTI-MEDIA NETWORKING 14 PORT MULTI-MEDIA ETHERNET MODULE
DESCRIPTION
The LE-140XTF is a fourteen port 6U Ethernet plug-in
module for use with the MultiNet modular, multi-media,
multi-LAN active star enclosures. It provides 12 ports for
standard Unshielded Twisted Pairs (UTP) connectivity as
per the IEEE 802.3 10BaseT specification. The module
includes the Plus mode, LANNET's enhanced two way
diagnostic mechanism for 10BaseT. In addition the
LE-140XTF has two 10BaseFB fiber optic ports for
connection to a multi-level fault tolerant network backbone.
The LE-140XTF provides user selectable connection to any
one of the four Ethernet LANs available in the MultiNet
enclosures. This allows for the co-existence of multiple
independent Ethernet networks within the same hub,
reduces LAN congestion and provides flexible bridging
capabilities. A standalone mode is also available, providing
an independent 12 port segment with integrated fiber
connectivity. In addition to supporting IEEE 802.3 10BaseT
transceivers, the fiber ports can provide hub to hub
interconnection with links of up to 3000m (10,000 ft).
The LE-140XTF is manageable to MultiMan, LANNET's
advanced SNMP-based Network Management System.

MultiMan provides extensive control, monitoring and
administration of the module from the remote management
console. MultiMan offers performance and event reporting
down to the port level.
The LE-140XTF UTP ports have two user selectable modes
of operation, 10BaseT and 10BaseT Plus.
The standard 10BaseT mode implements full repeater
functionality, with auto-partitioning and receive link status
test as per the standard.
The 10BaseT Plus mode includes detection of transmit link
failures, in addition to all the features of the standard
10BaseT mode. The Plus mode is completely transparent
to 10BaseT standard equipment. Switching between
modes is done on board or by Network Management.
Partitioning of faulty segments is activated automatically to
prevent disruption of the rest of the network. Reconnection
is also automatic - when normal operation resumes.
The two fiber ports are compliant with the IEEE 802.3
10BaseFB standard for backbone links, and provide
repeaterless interconnection between hubs for reliable
network design. Networks diameters exceeding 4 km
(2.5 miles) can be implemented when using fiber optics.
The user can select one of the fiber optic ports to be a
backup to the other, enabling fault tolerant network design.
Link communication will automatically switch over to the
redundant fiber port if the link fails on the main port.
Without redundancy the two ports function independently.
LAN redundancy automatically toggles module to backup
LAN preventing disruption of communications by
malfunctioning equipment.
SPECIFICATIONS
10BaseT Ports
s Auto-Partitioning
After 32 consecutive collisions or a collision followed by
a transmission longer than 2048 bits. Automatic
reconnection after receiving or transmitting a packet of
at least 512 bits with no collisions.
s Link Lengths
100m (330 ft) over 24 AWG UTP such as AT&T's DIW
s Signaling
Per IEEE 802.3 10BaseT for standard mode. 10BaseT
Plus mode includes RLD signal for Tx link test

LE-140XTF - Ethernet module for LET-36

  • 1. LE-140XTF FEATURES s Modularity Plug-in multi-media module with 12 10BaseT ports and two synchronous fiber (10BaseFB) ports for use in MultiNet™ smart hubs s Topological Flexibility Integrated synchronous backbone provides numerous layers of hierarchical hub cascading s Cost Effective Single slot module with high port density allows increased user and backbone links per hub s Compatibility Complies with IEEE 802.3 10BaseT specification and 10BaseFB specifications s Multiple LANs Selectable connection to one of four Ethernet LANs within the hub s Standalone Mode Allows independent operation as multiport repeater with integral connection to fiber backbone s Port Redundancy Fiber port redundancy with automatic switchover provides for fault tolerant backbone design s LAN Redundancy Protection against bus failure by automatic switchover to backup Ethernet LAN s Extensive Diagnostics Diagnostic indications of port and module status with unique 10BaseT Plus mode for superior diagnostics s Manageability Fully manageable under MultiMan™, LANNET's SNMP-based network management system MODULAR, MULTI-MEDIA NETWORKING 14 PORT MULTI-MEDIA ETHERNET MODULE DESCRIPTION The LE-140XTF is a fourteen port 6U Ethernet plug-in module for use with the MultiNet modular, multi-media, multi-LAN active star enclosures. It provides 12 ports for standard Unshielded Twisted Pairs (UTP) connectivity as per the IEEE 802.3 10BaseT specification. The module includes the Plus mode, LANNET's enhanced two way diagnostic mechanism for 10BaseT. In addition the LE-140XTF has two 10BaseFB fiber optic ports for connection to a multi-level fault tolerant network backbone. The LE-140XTF provides user selectable connection to any one of the four Ethernet LANs available in the MultiNet enclosures. This allows for the co-existence of multiple independent Ethernet networks within the same hub, reduces LAN congestion and provides flexible bridging capabilities. A standalone mode is also available, providing an independent 12 port segment with integrated fiber connectivity. In addition to supporting IEEE 802.3 10BaseT transceivers, the fiber ports can provide hub to hub interconnection with links of up to 3000m (10,000 ft). The LE-140XTF is manageable to MultiMan, LANNET's advanced SNMP-based Network Management System.
  • 2. LET-18E LET-36 LE-140XTF LET-36 LE-140XTF LE-140XTC main linkredundant link LET-18E LE-140XTF LE-140XTC MultiMan provides extensive control, monitoring and administration of the module from the remote management console. MultiMan offers performance and event reporting down to the port level. The LE-140XTF UTP ports have two user selectable modes of operation, 10BaseT and 10BaseT Plus. The standard 10BaseT mode implements full repeater functionality, with auto-partitioning and receive link status test as per the standard. The 10BaseT Plus mode includes detection of transmit link failures, in addition to all the features of the standard 10BaseT mode. The Plus mode is completely transparent to 10BaseT standard equipment. Switching between modes is done on board or by Network Management. Partitioning of faulty segments is activated automatically to prevent disruption of the rest of the network. Reconnection is also automatic - when normal operation resumes. The two fiber ports are compliant with the IEEE 802.3 10BaseFB standard for backbone links, and provide repeaterless interconnection between hubs for reliable network design. Networks diameters exceeding 4 km (2.5 miles) can be implemented when using fiber optics. The user can select one of the fiber optic ports to be a backup to the other, enabling fault tolerant network design. Link communication will automatically switch over to the redundant fiber port if the link fails on the main port. Without redundancy the two ports function independently. LAN redundancy automatically toggles module to backup LAN preventing disruption of communications by malfunctioning equipment. SPECIFICATIONS 10BaseT Ports s Auto-Partitioning After 32 consecutive collisions or a collision followed by a transmission longer than 2048 bits. Automatic reconnection after receiving or transmitting a packet of at least 512 bits with no collisions. s Link Lengths 100m (330 ft) over 24 AWG UTP such as AT&T's DIW s Signaling Per IEEE 802.3 10BaseT for standard mode. 10BaseT Plus mode includes RLD signal for Tx link test s Indicators Port Indications: on - normal link operation 1 blink - Rx link failure 2 blinks - Port Partition 3 blinks - Tx link failure (in 10BaseT Plus mode only) off - port disconnected Plus Mode: on - plus mode off - standard mode s Maximum Output Jitter Twisted pair port to twisted pair port - 1.5 nsec
