The water cycle describes how water evaporates from the surface of the Earth into the atmosphere due to heat, condenses into water droplets due to cold temperatures, and precipitates back down to the Earth's surface as rain, snow, sleet or hail. The water then either gets absorbed by plants, evaporates again, passes underground as groundwater, or runs off into bodies of water like streams, rivers, and oceans to repeat the cycle.
