1. 1. Leadership is a quality not everyone can possess. Though there are several opinions and
definitions regarding the leadership quality and being a good leader, according to me
leadership means much more than just being an influential person. Being a good leader is
not an easy task to accomplish, neither is imbibing those leadership traits into oneself. A
good leader is someone who can not only lead and direct but also motivate others. A
skilled leader should always work with its team and be a perfect example for their team
members whom they would love to follow or work with. Not only this, a good leader can
also work as an initiator, who would put forward the first step towards a change. Further
more, to become a successful leader, a person should be able to be patient, calm and
should have the ability to make quick and effective decision. Moreover, communication
ability plays an important role for attaining the level of being a good leader. A leader
should be able to express them clearly and precisely and also bring together their team to
work unanimously towards attaining the goals. Also, listening and respecting the ideas
and suggestions of their team members and getting the best out of the team is a quality
that every leader should adopt to become a good and successful leader.
2. Understanding the roles and qualities of a good leader, I relate myself with those traits to
a certain extent. The ability to motivate and influence people is a quality I strongly relate
myself with. I, several times, work as a motivator for my family and friends. I love to
hear new ideas and suggestions from my family and friends which aim towards a change
and also work towards implementation of such ideas. Moreover, I work as an initiator
during any group projects with my peers seeing to it that my team members are actively
participating in the projects and activities. Further more, my flexibility and analytical

in tough and complicated situations.
3. Several years of research and studies regarding the leadership and leadership qualities
have identified certain theories relating to leadership. Some of those theories include
traits, styles, functional and transformational theories. The trait theory identifies certain
traits that a person should incorporate within them to become a good leader. The key
traits include determination and drive that involve energy, initiative and perseverance;
cognitive capacity that involve intelligence, behavioral flexibility and good analytical and
judgmental ability; self-confidence trait involving self-esteem and assertiveness;
sociability trait involves friendly nature, extrovert and flexible; integrity trait which
involves loyalty, trustworthiness and dependable. The style theory describes the ways the
leader adapts to direct people, execute the plans and also motivate and influence people.
These styles depend on the situations and also on the personality, philosophy and
experience gained by the leader. The functional leadership theory explains the main
functions that the leaders should carry out which includes monitoring the environment,
organizing, training and motivating the subordinates and also participating actively in the
team work. The transformational theory is based on the qualities like employee concern,
stimulation of the intellects and establishing a group vision.
As per me, the traits theory makes the best sense for me. This is because the traits theory
involves all the basic traits or qualities that every leader should possess. It forms the base
for any leader and includes all those traits that become a necessity for being a leader.
Possessing such traits can make a good and successful leader who will be able to adapt
and act in any situation, more effectively and actively.
