5. Synopsis
Welcome to Greyfriars Reformatory School for Girls, an
imposing institution in the middle of nowhere. Greyfriars is
the perfect place for desperate parents to send their
rebellious teenage daughters for some ‘short sharp shock’
treatment. Ice-maiden Principal Quick runs the reformatory
with an iron fist, aided by creepy teacher Mister Michaels.
No mp3 players, no mobile phones, no Internet; and no boys
- the place already seems like a nightmare to new arrival
Emily. But it is about to get much worse with rumors of a
haunting, following a tragic suicide at the reformatory, giving
her sleepless nights. Emily befriends outcast, Sangita, who is
bullied mercilessly by the other girls. When Sangita is found
tragically dead, with her wrists slashed, Emily becomes the
bullies’ next target. Returning to her bad old ways, Emily
gets into a fight with their ringleader, Saffy. When Saffy
drowns, the other girls suspect Emily is to blame. But Emily
makes a terrifying discovery in the cellar beneath Mr.
Michaels’ study. The dead girls won't stay dead, and are
intent on Emily joining them. Believing Michaels to be a
murderer Emily tries to raise the alarm. But Principal Quick
defends Mr. Michaels and Emily is punished for her
accusations. Emily finds an unlikely ally in Saffy’s friend Jess.
But when Jess dies too, Emily must solve the mystery of The
Reformatory all alone. Are the gruesome deaths the suicides
of troubled young girls or are darker forces at work?

13. DISTRIBUTION & SALES ANALYSIS
HORROR FILMS CAN BE A LUCRATIVE INVESTMENT BECAUSE OF THE EASE AND SPEED IN
WHICH THEY GENERATE A PROFIT. HORROR FILMS APPEAL TO MEN AND WOMEN AS WELL
AS BRIDGE THE GENERATIONAL AND RACIAL GAP MORE EASILY THAN ANY OTHER GENRE.
FANS CHOOSE TO SEE HORROR BASED ON THE STORY RATHER THAN THE CAST SO IT IS
VERY COMMON FOR A FILM IN THIS GENRE TO YIELD AN IMPRESSIVE RETURN AND
DEVELOP A CULT FOLLOWING THROUGH DOMESTIC DVD SALES ALONE WITHOUT EVER
BEING RELEASED ON THE BIG SCREEN.
ANOTHER FACTOR THAT CONTRIBUTES TO THE NOTABLE EARNINGS HORROR FILMS TEND
TO PRODUCE IS THE FOREIGN MARKET. HORROR FILMS DO PARTICULARLY WELL BECAUSE
THE STORIES TRANSLATE EASILY ACROSS CULTURES AND ARE NOT RELIANT UPON
DIALOGUE. DESPITE THE DECLINING BIG BUDGET FOREIGN PURCHASES OF U.S MADE
FILMS, SALES OF SMALLER INDEPENDENT FILMS HAVE SEEN AN UPSWING PROVING THERE
IS STILL A DEMAND FOR CONTENT PRODUCED IN THE U.S. LOW BUDGET HORROR FILMS
INCLUDING ; SHUTTER, THE EYE, NECROSIS, THE HAUNTING OF MOLLY HARTLEY, WOLF
CREEK, THE COLLECTOR, HOSTEL, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY AND THE LIST GOES ON, HAVE
MADE NO LESS THAN $1M IN THE FOREIGN MARKET AND IN MOST CASES HAVE MADE NO
LESS THAN $10M.
THE REFORMATORY COMBINES SEVERAL KEY ELEMENTS WHICH WILL HELP ENSURE ITS
FINANCIAL SUCCESS IN THE FOREIGN MARKET. FIRST, A SMALLER PRODUCTION BUDGET
ALLOWS FOR A SMALLER “MINIMUM GUARANTEE” FROM THE FOREIGN DISTRIBUTORS
THAN THE LARGER STUDIO BASED FILMS. SECONDLY, THE REFORMATORY UNITES A CAST
OF UP AND COMING YOUNG ACTORS AS WELL AS A FEW ACTORS IN KEY ROLES WHO ARE
WELL ESTABLISHED NAMES IN THE AMERICAN AND FOREIGN MARKETS WITH A UK
WRITER/DIRECTOR WHO HAS ALREADY WON AWARDS IN THE HORROR GENRE. BASED
ON THESE ELEMENTS AND MARKET TRENDS IN HORROR SALES, THE REFORMATORY IS
LIKELY TO RECOUP FOUR TIMES THE BUDGET OF THE FILM IN FOREIGN PRE-SALES ALONE.

16. PROJECTED INVESTOR RETURN
Projected Investment Return FAQ
Q. What is the possible return on my investment?
A. Although there are no guarantees, we expect to return 100% of your investment plus an
additional 15%. If one unit is purchased at $5000.00 you will recoup $5000.00 plus $750.00.
Q. When will I recoup my investment?
A. The standard in the film industry is to expect to recoup your investment on an independent
film within 18 to 24 months. Based upon The Reformatory shooting in February of 2011 and being
released in October of 2011, we project your initial investment plus 15% to be returned on/about
February of 2012 according to the following schedule;
•First: Any expenses and taxes shall be paid and adjusted gross proceeds will be determined.
Adjusted Gross Proceeds shall be defined as all revenues from the exploitation of the Picture to
the extent: (i) earned and nonrefundable; (ii) actually received by the Production Company; and
(iii) as determined after the deduction of expenses, and all reasonable and customary refunds
including but not limited to taxes, credits, discounts, allowances, adjustments, exclusions, and
deductions (including, interest and fees owed, residuals, union payments, sales agent fees,
distribution fee(s), and actual expenses incurred in connection with the delivery materials,
advertising, promotion, exploitation and distribution of the Picture, if any, and the reasonable
cost of conducting the Production Company’s business) incurred by Production Company in
connection with the financing, production, and exploitation of the Picture.
•Second: Investors shall receive their proportionate share of one hundred (100%) percent of the
Adjusted Gross Proceeds (as defined above) from the exploitation of the Picture on a pari passu
basis, until all investors have recouped one hundred and fifteen (115%) percent of their respective
investments in connection with the Picture.
Q. How does “Net Revenue Participation” work?
A. In addition to the initial investment plus 15%, membership unit holders shall thereafter receive
their respective proportionate share of twenty-five (25%) percent of the Net Revenue from the
exploitation of the Picture on a pari passu basis with other investors in perpetuity. The remaining
seventy-five percent (75%) percent of the Net Revenue from the exploitation of the Picture shall
be distributed within the sole discretion of the Production Company.
Investor Summary > "The Reformatory" 16
17. PROJECTED INVESTOR RETURN
Q. How much could “Net Revenue Participation” amount to?
A. As with any investment there are no guarantees but there are projections based on similar
projects. For the purposes of “The Reformatory” net revenue participation projection we will use
returns from Paranormal Activity which is a reasonable comparison .
Paranormal Activity The Reformatory
LOW BUDGET X X
MINIMAL LOCATIONS X X
UNKNOWN CAST X At least 1
recognizable actor
UNKNOWN DIRECTOR X Director known in
the UK
INDEPENDENTLY PRODUCED X X
Paranormal Activity received a limited Theatrical release for one month in September of 2009. Box
Office Revenue during the limited release totaled $13M. Based on this number, returns for The
Reformatory would break down as follows:
13,000,000.00
- 7,000,000.00 (worst case estimate of fees described above)
______________
6,000,000.00U
- 345,000.00 (return to member unit holders)
____________
5,655,000.00
-4,241,250.00 (75% to Production)
_____________
1,413,750.00 (25% to be distributed to unit holders)
The Reformatory is selling 60 units. $23,562.50 would be distributed per unit. That number is
based solely on being released for one month to a limited number of theatres. This does not
include wide theatrical release, foreign sales, DVD sales/rentals, pay-per-view/cable release, online
distribution and all other ancillary markets.
