As illustrated in the graph below, this marked the first time since 1994 that revenues have declined.
Regardless of this year 's decline, Nike Inc. achieved 300% revenue growth over a 10–year period,
rising from 1990 sales of $2.235 billion. Exhibit 1 * Obtained from Nike, Inc. 1999 Annual Report
Although revenues declined in 1999, net income increased by 13% over the prior year. As the graph
below illustrates, net income has been volatile in the latter half of the 90 's. Sharp decreases in 1998
and 1999 net income were due to restructuring charges. If these charges had not been incurred,
income would have been flat for both years. Efficiency in cost control and inventory management
has allowed net income to increase while revenues decreased in 1999. Note that the largest growth
rate was 43% in 1997 over the prior year with net income of $795.8 million. Exhibit 2 * Obtained

5. Coach Thad Matta Research Paper
The Ohio State men's basketball team has had back–to–back disappointing seasons and most people
believe that head Coach Thad Matta should be fired from his job. Ohio State is a program that over
the last ten years has been accustomed to winning games and being at the top of the Big Ten
standings, and the last two years under coach Matta were not up to most fans standards. I believe
that Thad Matta should not be fired and that he will turn the program around if given more time.
Thad Matta has been one of the most successful coaches in the country at his time at The Ohio State
University. Comparing him to Michigan State's head coach Tom Izzo, Thad Matta has a higher
winning percentage, more regular season conference championships, and more conference
tournament championships in his coaching career, which is also five years shorter than Izzo's,
according to sports–refernces.com. Then if you compare Matta to the past Ohio State coaches he
easily surfaces into the top pair. Coach Matta is the winningest coach in Ohio State history (Brown).

Ohio State was not a national powerhouse before Thad Matta got their, and he turned them into one

them into a respectable basketball program in the Big Ten. Ohio State under Matta has had some
good runs into the NCAA tournament running the same offensive system they do now. The problem
with Ohio State is not their offense, it's on the defensive side of the court. When they were making
tournament runs into the final four they had great defensive players like guards Aaron Craft and

7. Should Football Be Banned In Schools
With football being the most competitive sport in the nation, many people have debated of whether
this sport should be banned in high schools due to the major injuries it may cause. Football is known
to have the highest concussion rate, next to boys ice hockey. However, the amount of money
football makes for both high school and colleges, (it may not be the best idea to completely ban this
sport). High school football should not be banned because if techniques were taught correctly many
injuries could be prevented, athletes can benefit from athletic scholarships, and the money football
raises benefits the schools. It may be true that the sport of football can cause physical and
psychological damage to high school athletes. Football is a contact ... Show more content on

incoming freshman's leaving the highschool level. According to Average Athletic Scholarship per

is often structured more like a quasi–joint venture, because corporate venture capital often brings
more to the table than just money, such as access to the resources of these large companies.
Corporate venture capital efforts typically revolve around the corporation's goals to incubate future
acquisitions; gain access into new technologies; obtain intellectual property licenses; provide work
for unused capacity; technology entrepreneur thinking to current corporate staff; final hours for
excess cash; and break into new markets.
NARROWING THE FIELD
Preparation is the key to obtaining an initial meeting with the institutional venture capitalist. There
are three central components to the preparation process: business and strategic planning; effective
10. networking; and narrowing the field. A well–written business plan and financing proposal is a
necessary prerequisite to serious consideration by any sophisticated source of capital. Effective
networking means using professional advisers, commercial lenders, investment bankers and
consultants who may be able to assist you to get the business plan into the hands of the appropriate
venture capitalists. Institutional sources of capital are often flooded with unsolicited, "non–
introduced" plans that are more likely to end up in a wastebasket than before an investment
committee. Remember that the average venture

There is consequently a vast and continuous effort going on to capture our minds in the interest of
some policy or commodity or idea. It might be better to have, instead of propaganda and special
pleading, committees of wise men who would choose our rulers, dictate our conduct, private and
public, and decide upon the best types of clothes for us to wear and the best kinds of food for us to
11
Propaganda eat. But we have chosen the opposite method, that of open competition. We must find
13. a way to make free competition function with reasonable smoothness. To achieve this society has
consented to permit free competition to be organized by leadership and propaganda. Some of the
phenomena of this process are criticized–the manipulation of news, the inflation of personality, and
the general ballyhoo by which politicians and commercial products and social ideas are brought to
the consciousness of the masses. The instruments by which public opinion is organized and focused
may be misused. But such organization and focusing are necessary to orderly life. As civilization has
become more complex, and as the need for invisible government has been increasingly
demonstrated, the technical means have been invented and developed by which opinion may be
regimented. With the printing press and the newspaper, the railroad, the telephone, telegraph, radio
and airplanes, ideas can

15. Should College Athletes Be Paid?
At a time when colleges all over the country are having to cut back on educational expenditures,
justifying spending additional amounts of money on collegiate sports, as well as the players, has
become a very hot pressed topic in which the collegiate athlete is losing out on much of the money
generated by their performances either on the field or the court. Because many of these players help
bring in money to the university, they believe that a portion of that money should be given back to
them. Millions of dollars are made each year in collegiate sports but few of those dollars have been
given back to the players, who are the one's actually playing the sports colleges participate in.
Merchandise with players names, video games using a player's likeness, and all the obligations
involving media interviews, as well as maintaining ones grades can cause a collegiate athlete to
believe that their efforts are not being rewarded in a monetary sense. Now colleges and universities
around the country are rebutting that argument by having all of the college athletes expenses paid
for. They believe giving them a free education should be enough. Colleges believe that being a
student should trump all other obligations, including sports, so helping a young adult pay for college
is something universities hold in high regard. Universities are a place for higher learning, not a place
where athletes are supposed to come and make money. Also, many colleges would have a burden
paying their

19. Ohio State And Michigan State
The Greatest Rivalry
Their first meeting, which was held in Ann Arbor, was 34–0. Michigan dominated Ohio State in
their first couple meetings. "Carmen Ohio", Ohio State alma mater, was wrote in 1902 on the way
back from Ann Arbor after losing to Michigan 86–0. Ohio State better and better each year until they
final grew big enough to join the Big Ten in 1912. It is 1950, snow is coming down harder than ever
and the wind is brutal but yet two teams are out on a football field with a stadium full of Scarlet and
Blue all around. Michigan vs Ohio State has long been the greatest rivalry in football. They fought
back and fourth, winning and losing, for over 100 years. But even through all the different coaches
and players, through the fights and tears, Michigan and Ohio State will always be the greatest
tradition in football. This essay will be comparing Ohio State and Michigan throughout the years,
from winning streaks to greatest games and players. It'll also be reminiscing bowl games where it
was 2 degree and a blizzarding down on the players to bowl games and were very one sided. Ohio
State has not always been better than Michigan but over the years they have fought back and forth
and Ohio State has slowly narrowed the hole and are coming back with fire in their eyes.

23. Minority Groups In Professional Sports Essay
According to Flake et al., (2013), "Net of various productivity measures, the average female player
earned less than her male counterpart for every singles tournament won in 2009" (p. 670).
Understanding that some level of skill difference could be to blame for difference in numbers Flake
et al., (2013) dove deeper into the issue. According to Flake et al., (2013), "We also find that while
prize money for men and women is equal in prestigious tournaments such as Grand Slam events,
women's prize money is considerably lower in many of the less publicized tournaments" (p. 672). To
find that women only get paid in a similar amount in tournaments that are more publicised seems to
be a large lack of ethics in the professional tennis community. ... Show more content on

This belief is reinforced because minority representation in professional sports is exceptionally
larger than the minority representation in the labor force for the United States (Kahn, 1991, p. 395).
Although minority groups are more represented in professional sports than they were in the past,
they still do not hold many managerial or executive level positions. There is a debate on why
minority groups are excluded from these types of positions. One group argues that, "minorities are
excluded from these positions because of negative stereotypes about black players' intelligence or
leadership abilities" (Kahn, 1991, p. 407). Another explanation to why minority groups might not be
in central positions is because of discrimination in training. Positions like quarterback, pitcher, and
linebacker in professional sports require more training than a regular position like an outfielder or
blocker. Minority groups that do not receive the same amount of training as white people in these
positions will most likely choose a non–central position. People in these central positions sometimes
discriminate against minority groups and believe they will not be able to train them because they are
not capable of learning these

25. Keith Jones In Philadelphia Sport
Philadelphia is notorious for being an extremely tough sports town. One day, the fan base can think
you are the best player in your league, then the next they're calling for your head and sending you on
a bus right out of town. In order to succeed in Philly, you need to be a great athlete and you have to
be consistent. Nobody succeeds in Philly by just being "average". However, "No one in the history
of Philadelphia sports has made a successful career off of being an average player better than...".
Who comes to mind? Jason Avant? Carlos Ruiz? Samuel Dalembert? Well the answer is no, no, and
no. The answer is Keith "Jonesy" Jones.
Now, some of you might be asking yourself, who the heck is Keith Jones? Keith Jones was a
forward for the Philadelphia flyers from 1998–2001. Starting from the beginning, Keith Jones was
born on November 8th, 1968 in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. Keith Jones, like any boy growing up in

also had to do the fighting, and through this he showed his grit by never backing down. Also, Philly
is considered "the city of brotherly love" so for example, Philadelphians are nice to their neighbors

27. How Does Gatorade Affect Popular Culture
Patel 1
Gatorade has a big impact on sport culture in America. From fans, athletes, and sponsors this drinks
has become the symbol of American sportsmanship. In the early era many players would drink
Gatorade to refresh themselves before continuing to play. By the mid–1980's Gatorade changed its
position to shower coaches and players after victories. This drink would revolutionize the entire
sport world. By the 21st Century teams across the world would use Gatorade to celebrate. In
America many teams and players are sponsored by the Gatorade Company to use their product and
name new flavors after themselves. By far Gatorade is the official sport drinks of many sports, such
as football and soccer. Gatorade was made in the mid–1960 in Southern Florida by Robert Cade.
The originally flavor was Lemon–Lime. Many athletes would drink Gatorade to refresh themselves
before returning to the game. The NFL was one of the first sport league to allow its players to drink
it. By the 1970's it was popular for many children and young adults. In the 1980's teams celebrated

originally called the "Gatorade Dunk," where players from a victorious team pick up the Gatorade
cooler, sneak up behind the head coach, and pour the contents of the cooler (generally Gatorade and
ice) over his head at the end of an American football game. This tradition was popularized in the
mid–1980s when Harry Carson and Jim Burt, of the New York Giants, doused head coach Bill

during the team's championship season of 1986–87. The tradition has since become a recurring

29. What Is America's Pastime?
Lets take a look into why I believe that baseball has not only followed in the footsteps our "Great
Country", but is still "America's Pastime." Ask yourself, "is baseball our country's sport, has it not
evolved with our great nation?" The answer is yes, for many reasons. Lets take a look back in
history, "President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, as
the nation approached its third year of bloody civil war. The proclamation declared, 'that all persons
held as slaves' within the rebellious states 'are, and henceforward shall be free.' Despite this
expansive wording, the Emancipation Proclamation was limited in many ways. It applied only to
states that had seceded from the Union, leaving slavery untouched ... Show more content on

When we look our United States history, it is very similar, as long as we acknowledge it and just
accept it; it is our country and our sport. Look at baseball before 1900, our country was mostly on
the east coast, where our settlers were, and they played the sport with out African Americans.
Society was segregated, this was not a good thing, but it was how they lived. Once we moved on,
from 1910 through 1930, our country was changing, there was a war going on overseas, labor talks
and still some segregation. Baseball had its problems also; there was the "Black Sox scandal" (Ward,
Baker, Burns, 2011, pg. 144) Baseball was trying to clean up its act, with some talks of players
getting more money, so the unions played a role in society also. The middle class was having issues
with unions and then the first strike within baseball was in 1912. It all boiled down to money,
players were offered to come play in the "Federal League." WWI brought baseball together as our
country was fighting overseas, the National Anthem was not created until 1931, but was first played
at a baseball game by the band in the 1918 World Series. During the 7th inning stretch, they stroke
up the song at Comiskey Park. The stretch, turning into every uncovered head turning to "Old
Glory" and remembering our great nation, "it was then that 'Our Spangled Banner' would be an
integral part the national pastime." (Ward, Baker, Burns, 2011, pg. 132) Lets fast forward and look
at Hank Aaron, his career started in 1954 and ended in 1976, "if you are a baseball fan, you should
know that Aaron was the player that broke Babe Ruth's career record of home runs." (Tunnison,
2015) You can see the mirror effect with society; "the Civil Rights Act was passed less than a decade
before this feat by an African American was to be accomplished. The nation was buzzing with
controversy, with

New Zealand woman, the coroner concluded "were it not for the consumption of very large
