Persuasive Essay
"Your assignment is to write a persuasive essay and present it to the class in a week. You will be
graded based on how convincing it is. Today we will be choosing topics," announced Mr.
Bowerbank, my 7th grade English teacher and ruler of classroom 110. My class simultaneously
groaned at the prospect of work. I simply lifted my head with intrigue as it was already May and
about time we had our first essay. He then proceeded to give examples of topics we could choose
and gave us some time to think before we had to tell him our topic. My classmates were already
rushing to tell the teacher their idea lest someone else steal it. That meant the usual abortion, death
penalty, or drug use topics were out. I really couldn't think of anything and the teacher was slowly
making his way through the remaining students like an executioner beheading criminals in a line.
I have always thought that he would make a marvelous supervillain if he had a curly mustache, a
tophat, and a cape. Eventually my name was called. I slowly dragged myself over to his desk.
Even sitting down, he still seemed to tower over me. "What is your topic Cindy?" As usual in such
desperate times, my mind turned to food. "Waffles are better than pancakes." I figured that awaffle
was just a differently shaped pancake with a nicer texture. "Hmm. Excellent topic. I look forward
to your essay!" I survived to live yet another day. As I walked to lunch, I went around and asked
everyone the age old question: "Do you like

Schools have been using the same learning techniques for a long time. Since technology has been
evolving, there are changes that have made schooling harder, and some changes that have made
schooling easier. For example, instead of using paper and pencil students now have iPads and their
own laptops to do their school work on. Are these more advanced changes for the better, and make
learning more convenient, or are they unfavorable and make schooling complicated and more
problematic? Most examples lead to the conclusion that laptops are more convenient. for the reason,
that they make school work easier and generate easy access to sites for research.
During the beginning of my Highschool career everybody was given an iPad; grade six to grade
twelve. However not everybody is fond of the iPads. Many students, throughout the long school
days, have come up to the library to check out a laptop because they either "lost" their iPad, or they
just don't want to use it. Many students have tried to check out laptops even when they have their
fully functioning iPads, so now whenever you want to check out a laptop you have to leave your
phone for collaboration. In almost every class teachers use the iPads, but not all teachers are fond of
the iPads either. Some teachers continue to use paper and pencil because it's more of a convenience
to them.
Laptops are more convenient for me to use because of the classes I'm currently taking. Such as my

Persuasive Essay On Homework
What the public is concerned about is if homework should even be assigned? Homework was
contrived to prepare students and help them engage them in the content being taught. Homework
also enacts time management skills and responsibility of growing young adults. Although the debate
about if homework should be given minimally or in discretion and that homework has no verified
benefits still stands. Homework is necessary for causing students to be engaged in the content taught
and delivers time management skills for the future.
The stance that homework is necessary and helps students engage in the content and learn time
management skills is one I concede with assiduously. Homework is given to students to help them
retain the information they learned in class and leads to academic achievement. Many research
studies have found evidence of a positive correlation between homework and student achievement.
Since students are given homework nightly, it will help them absorb the content and they can score
higher on a test or quiz. Homework also helps students develop responsibility and life skills, and
prepares students in time management skills. Research claims the ability to manage tasks provides
essential learning, increased motivation, and academic benefits. When students engage in homework
it makes them more successful and independent in the long run. Although homework may take up
time after an extracurricular and can lead to less sleep; for example, a student doing a sport after
school, getting home and having to do homework on top of that. Doing an extracurricular and still
completing homework are inherently important, students will gain time management skills if they
are doing both. If a student can learn to juggle an extracurricular with homework it will help them
learn life skills. Homework will lead to the academic growth, achievement, and the success of a
student.
The stance that homework is important, but discretion can and should be used when assigning it is
one I partially concede with. Homework should be given in the accounts of different classes, since
not all classes are the same. Homework is given in regards to class type (CP, Honors,
Advanced–Placement), homework severs different classes by rigor

Persuasive Essay On Self Control
First thing that I do every morning when I get up is pray and ask God for his protection and help
me to control myself where I go during the day, it could be work, school, the store etc. Self–control
is a skill we all possess yet we tend to give ourselves little credit for it. Besides, the ability to remain
calm under pressure and exercise self–control has a direct link to our performance. Moreover, when
it comes to self– control, it is so easy to focus on our failures that our successes tend to faded in
comparison. Furthermore, self–control is an effort that's intended to help one achieve a goal. One
thing that I do to exercise self–control at my in helping me achieve that goal at my workplace at
times is to mediate. Research shows that mediation train one brain to become a self– control
machine. In addition, while mediating, I pray and ask God for his protection for be mindful of
what I do and say. In that process one thing I do is take few minutes to focus on nothing but my
breathing and my sense, which improve self–awareness and my brain ability to resist negative
desires. Another thing is self–forgiveness. If someone wrong me I will ask God to forgive me first
then I will ask god to help me forgive that person. Impression management is a psychological
process by which people attempt to control how they are perceived by other people and groups.
When I'm at work, I do not work to impress anyone, I work so that God can be pleased with what I
do. I do not do eyes servant

Persuasive Essays : Persuasive Essay
When I began this class, I loved to write persuasive essays. I loved to write about my own opinions
and I was quite good at convincing people to agree with my stand points. To convince others to
agree on my point of view was an extraordinary feeling. I am very good at getting my point across
and giving my reasons on why I feel the way I do about a certain situation. I loved writing persuasive
essays because I love to read them as well. I love how persuasive essays have a call–to–action;
giving the readers a chance to do something about the situation. I am all for protest and rights for
others, if I believe someone is wrong I will stand my ground and prove that it is wrong. I loved to
write persuasive essays because, I am a persuasive person in life. My opinions matter just as much
as everyone else. Writing persuasive essays, is like writing from the soul. To be able to put my all
into a piece and show why it means so much to me. By taking this class, I have come to enjoy the
research paper. I feel now as I writer I still love persuasive writing; just know I include research to
help strengthen my opinions. I am an organized writer as well as a descriptive writer, being able
to write things in logical order and having things well explained for a reader. I now understand the
meaning and how to write about things I may not always agree with. Being able to describe my
writing, giving more detail is something taking this class has taught me. Giving my readers a better

Persuasive Essay On Refugees
According to UNHCR, a refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because
of persecution, war, or violence. A refugee has a well–founded fear of persecution for reasons of
race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group. Most likely,
they cannot return home or are afraid to do so. War and ethnic, tribal and religious violence are
leading causes of refugees fleeing their countries. When people flee their own country, and seek
sanctuary in another country, they apply for asylum – the right to be recognized as a refugee and
receive legal protection and material assistance. An asylum seeker must demonstrate that his or her
fear of persecution in his or her home country is...show more content...
On the one hand, countries such as Sweden or Germany proclaimed themselves in favor of accepting
refugees, which was in accordance with international obligations. On the other hand, the V4
countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) were definitely for tightening their
boundaries and for helping the refugees only in the places they actually were.
In the attempts to "manage the immigrant crisis" several strategic mistakes have been made, which
have shaken the functioning of migration policy in the European community. Particular controversy
was stirred up by a plan for the relocation of 120,000 refugees suggested in September 2015. Some
months later (April/May 2016), the European Commission came up with the idea of fines for those
countries which would not receive the relocated refugees. The fine for one unaccepted foreigner was
supposed to be €250,000. The attempt to impose a quota of immigrants on member countries
together with high fines contributed to further divisions inside the EU.
Freely accepting the migrants would be a much better solution. Moreover, distribution of refugees
calculated according to host country population or gross domestic product was a gross simplification
and unworkable. Also, possibilities of integration of the migrants in particular countries should be
taken into consideration. Equally important is the dialogue of all the 28 EU member countries
concerning common solutions for asylum policy. Additionally, the

Persuasive Essay On Seeking Out Help
Much of the population within the United States feel that they are unable to express their feelings
due to being afraid of society's input and interpretation on the matter. People who deal with mental
illnesses are frightened to seek out help for their conditions because they are afraid of society's
connotation on depression. Depression is capable of crippling one's life, but seeking out help is
important and is beneficial to overcome depression. Seeking out help provides assistance and
support during battles with depression. Even though depression can become crippling and overtake
one's life, seeking out help is important to overcome it because it can provide assistance with the
internal battle. Many people either have experienced depression personally or know someone
personally who has battled it. Seeking out help in the battle presents opportunities to better
handle and overcome depression as a whole. By seeking out help one can be given the proper
resources and be lead in the right direction. Reaching out to simply a parent or close person within
one's life opens a whole new door because they are able to research how to help, whether it's
getting an appointment with a primary doctor to start or even a mental health specialist. Receiving
assistance with depression is important because it's a beginning to getting on the right path of
overcoming depression. I personally have been battling depression for the last five years and
seeking out help was the best decision I

Persuasive Essay On Care For Veterans
Throughout history, many veterans suffer after fighting in wars, and millions of veterans have
been killed or injured. Veterans do not necessarily get the treatments they deserve without paying
a price. Taking care of veterans costs a lot and health care is needed for them. They need health
care after serving, in order to treat their problems and injuries. Jobs are also important to veterans
because they are jobless after fighting in wars, which leads them to be homeless. It is important
for people who need help to get help. As of right now, the government has attempted to help
veterans, but it may not be enough. The government has a major role in giving veterans care. There
are many organizations and programs for veterans. The government helps veterans by giving them
health care, but they do not help veterans with jobs. Although there are many support groups for
veterans, it is an example of a small problem due to the fact that there are millions of veterans in
need (Carter). The government is unable to fix some problems, but it has continued to increase the
amount of money that goes into caring for veterans. The VHA is funded differently compared to
something like Medicare. The amount of money spent for veterans would change if the veterans that
need more help receive more help (Golding). As the number of veterans rise, the amount of money
to take care of them would also increase. The government's role in caring for veterans is important
for them because they have risked

Persuasive Essay About Helping People
I've always wanted to be able to help people in any type of way, even if it's something so small
that means the world to them. Throughout my childhood, I've become quite accustomed to the
idea of wanting to really help people; make a change to their lives in a way. When I got older, it
became a little more difficult for me to be able to carry this out, since I've been working while
going to school for the past three year. I started to run out of time that I could be using to help
people less fortunate, that time was instead used for school and work. I decided to get in contact
with my childhood friend's mother to see if she could help me out in any way. She eventually
responded and she assisted me with this essay. Mrs. Whitmore has beenvolunteering with many
projects throughout her life to help make a homeless person's/ anyone who is less fortunate day a
little bit better. I asked her what made her want to start helping people in the first place. Mr.
Whitmore informed me that it wasn't too far from what I had said; she always liked helping
people just because, but then she wanted to do more than just being polite, so she took it to the
next level and ended up making volunteer work a huge part of her life. The admiration that I have
for this woman; she ended up being someone I have utmost respect for. In the email, she insisted
that I volunteer at this place called Cafe 180. She told me how it's a place that cares for it's
community and is a great place to get the

Persuasive Essay : A Cry For Help
A Cry for Help A couple years ago, I was in Florida for a vacation to visit my family. I went for a
walk for some fresh air because my family was being overwhelming. As I was walking, I heard
someone screaming but I didn't think much of it For a second, I wanted to go back and get my
coat since the night was a bit chilly but I felt like something was pulling me away from home; even
though I didn't want to face my family, I also felt something else as if I had to just keep walking. A
couple of feet in front of me, I saw a woman walking and she didn't look like she was having the
best day in her life, and as I was not either. As soon as she saw me walking behind her, she started
to walk away fast. The least to say is she shouldn't have walked away fast. Her screaming sounded
like she wasn't safe. Whenever I go for walks, I usually have my head down to the ground, but this
time I didn't; I had my head up high. I saw a guy crossing the street to where the girl in front and I
were walking; his clothes said a lot about him. He was wearing all black clothes including a
hoodie and a hat. My thoughts on his clothes were that he was going to do something illegal; I
hated myself for thinking that but I also hated myself more for being right. When he was next to
the girl, he pulled out his gun on her and stole her handbag. What I wasn't expecting is for her to
be fighting back especially since he had a gun in his hand and could have shot her at any second. I
knew what I was

Persuasive Essay On Drug Addiction
Drug addiction is a complex problem in society today. Addiction is a condition that extremely affects
the person's mind and body. Addiction also has wide sweeping effects on that person's social
connection and functioning. Unfortunately, many addicts don't realize the social influence of their
addiction until much of their functioning has greatly deteriorated.
Addiction is a "chronic disease characterized by drug seeking and use that is compulsive, or difficult
to control, despite harmful consequences." The initial decision to take drugs is voluntary for most
individuals, but frequent drug use can lead to brain alterations that challenge an addicted person's
self–control and interfere with their ability to resist intense urges to take drugs. These brain
alterations can be persistent, which is why drug addiction is considered a "relapsing" disease. People
in recovery from drug use disorders are at increased threat for returning to drug use even after years
of not taking the drug. It's common for an individual to relapse, but relapse doesn't mean that
treatment doesn't work. As with other chronic health conditions, treatment should be constant and
should be adjusted based on how the patient answers. Treatment plans need to be reviewed often and
modified to fit the patient's changing desires.
Although it is true that for most people the initial decision to take drugs is voluntary, over time the
changes in the brain caused by frequent drug abuse can impair a person's self–discipline and ability
to make sound judgements, and at the same time create an intense impulse to take drugs. It is
because of these alterations in the brain that it is so puzzling for a person to stop abusing drugs.
Luckily, there are treatments that help people to neutralize addiction's powerful disruptive effects
and regain control of their lives. Study shows that combining addiction treatment medications, when
suitable, with behavioral therapy is the best way to ensure success for most patients. Treatment
approaches that are custom–made to each patient's drug abuse patterns and any concurrent medical,
psychiatric, and social problems can help achieve sustained recovery and a life without drugs. The
alcohol abuse definition is similar

Persuasive Essay Benefits
Summer is a great time of year when students are stress free from all the school work they have
been doing for the past nine and a half months. What most people think is how much summer takes
away from the learners. Many students' test scores drop from the end of the school to the beginning,
and people are blaming summer. Parents, teachers, and professors don't realize that summer is a
time for kids to learn about the real world.
This summer most freshman through seniors will have jobs. Even though it's said that students' test
scores go down does not mean that they're not learning anything. At jobs young adults get to learn
about things that students can't learn in school, such as work ethic, how to use money and, and how
to work with different

Persuasive Essay On Community Service
Every Sunday, I have the opportunity to help as a child care worker in my church's nursery; and
every week, after spending just one hour watching over the kids so that their parents can go to
service and not have to worry about their children, I remember exactly why I spend my free time
helping others. The term "Noblesse Oblige" is why I choose to be involved in multiple childcare
opportunities and community service clubs. I believe it is my job to make sure those who are less
fortunate, or in need of aid, get the help they require and deserve. I take part in different aspects of
community service because it helps better my community and makes me a stronger leader.
For the past three years at Liberty High School, I have been a member of the Key Club community
service organization. As a member of this club, I am able to help with different jobs around the
community that help the people in our town specifically. For example, every first Wednesday of
the month I go and help with a project called Snack Pack. During this time, about fifteen other
kids and I prepare three weeks worth of food for seventeen high schoolers in our school district.
These are kids that do not have enough money at home to always have food on their table. Snack
Pack plays an important role in their lives because without it, they would not always eat. These
kids deserve the chance to live their life and go to school without having to worry about whether
or not the will eat dinner that night. That is why I value my role in this club so much, because I
know what we do makes a difference. When the kids collect their food, they are able to relax a
little more knowing that their family will be able to eat. Another aspect of Key Club that I take
part in is Fairy Tale Forest, held at Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary. Every year, the
weekend before Halloween, I volunteer, with a handful of others from the club, to go and work at
the children's fairy tale nature walk. The past two years I have been a runner. This means I do the
odd little jobs, like run food and drinks around to the different characters that are working in the
trail, that would otherwise be forgotten or not done at all. Although this is a small role, it is what
helps make

Reflection Of A Persuasive Reflection
Reflection of a Persuasive Essay by Vickie Hale In my revision, I decided to incorporate
actionable feedback from the feedback I received. The feedback I received was that my essay
needed more clarification, I choose to use this feedback to help make my argument more developed,
I wanted to create a better thought out essay and I worked on the clarification of my argument as
well as renewed my research. With that, I did some critical thinking to help work through the
weak areas of my essay which was the structure and syntax. Therefore, I incorporated these
suggestions because they helped me to improve my essay and help me to create a more persuasive
essay. Without these changes alongside the small revisions, I made, I do not believe my essay
would have been as well–written so they were much needed. My biggest challenges came from not
being able to pin down my argument, it took me a while to come find a side to an argument that
wasn't vague. Because, I usually write in a creative way, which does not necessarily have to be
persuasive, I usually write fictional stories and people getting the understanding from the
experiences of the characters is the outcome, but with persuasive writing, you are trying to get your
readers to not only agree with your side of the argument but to see what and why you are arguing
your side in the first place. This became difficult for me because I kept feeling like my argument
was not central and a little vague. I worked on trying to help my readers understand what and why
I was arguing my side of the argument. I had to think about who was reading my essay and this
helped. What I could have done differently is choose a more central argument, I believe it would
have reduced my challenges. This question is hard for me to answer because I did not receive but
one peer feedback, the feedback I incorporated concerning my exploration of the issue was more
clarification because that was one of the problems my peer review pointed out. I worked on my
clarification because it is one of the main elements, that is needed when you are writing a
persuasive essay or any essay for that matter. Clarification gives the essay structure so your readers
can have a full understanding of your

Persuasive Essay On Dogs
Known as man's best friend, the domestic dog is the greatest pet a person can have. Historically,
the canine has been a companion of man for thousands of years. Dogs have become important
members in individual's personal lives. They can also be utilized to benefit society as a whole.
Dogs should be considered the greatest animal because they can provide health benefits, are able to
accomplish unique jobs in society, and have profound meaning for people. When acquiring adog,
many only consider the emotional benefits that they will gain. However, dog ownership is also
associated with several physical benefits. Owning a dog promotes an individual's physical health and
can inspire them to live more active lives. When compared to non–dog owners, individuals with
dogs live longer and more active lives. The active lifestyle that most dogs and their owners
engage in, such as participating in walks, provides physical activity for the individual. Increased
levels of physical activity help individuals manage their weight and promote heart health. Studies
have revealed that dog ownership has been associated with lower levels of cardiovascular disease
and death (Larned). Many individuals avoid dogs because they fear they are or will become
allergic. However, dogs carry their own unique bacteria, which can have immune boosting benefits
for their owners. Studies have also shown that dogs have the ability to detect some cancers and other
health problems in their owners (Clark).

Essay on Does Homework Actually Help Students
Everyone at one point in time has complained they have had too much homework. Especially in
High School. I was always told homework will help me because it is a way to practice and fully
master the material I needed to learn. In high school students spend a few hours a night doing what
they see as busy work, meaning they do not think it is helping them at all. Some students do not
mind work load. They feel doing the problems, writing the short responses, filling out packets, helps
them because they practice and remember the material. Aquestion that has come up is whether
assigning packets of homework, mostly finding a word and it's definition, will help students master
material better than assigning less or none at all. I believe that...show more content...
In cases like this, students do not learn the material. By simply writing many definitions, or even
writing wrong definitions, students do not grasp a deep understanding of concepts or main points of
the material. As stated in the book Helping Your Child with Homework, the best type of homework
assignments are the type that include some kind of feedback from the teacher to the student; the
homework assigned to students should also be at a level appropriate for the students learning
abilities, and the assignments should challenge the student intellectually (book citation). Packets
filled with simple questions such as " what is meiosis" or "give the definition of simile" do not
challenge students and teachers do not give much, or any, feedback to students with this type of
homework. Many argue that it is difficult for teachers to give feedback when they teach one hundred
or more students. The amount of papers they need to grade is high and they simply do not have the
time to write comments on every assignment. My answer to this is simple. Instead of assigning
packets of homework, assign a few critical thinking questions. The students would give a brief
summary on the main concept, then perhaps paraphrase a definition that is important to know.
Students would then really think about their answers and the teacher could give comments since
they will no longer have to skim packets. Teachers would only have to read

Self-Reflection: Connecting The Dots
Perhaps this deep awareness and self–reflection is both a blessing and a curse! Hmm, connecting the
dots in a way no one else can. Mustn't innovative thinkers build off of some fundamental idea that
is necessarily framed and shaped by previous thinkers? I find it hard to believe that any epiphany I
might have is truly unique in that it was not inspired by something or someone else before. Yes, it is
necessary to connect the dots differently, uniquely. My life, the oddities, the synchronicities, the
hardship, and the way that the universe conspires around and about me, is no doubt different
from the experience of previous thinkers. Yet, as I connect these dots to fit my life, I still feel that
it is wise to continue to be guided by past brilliance. If you have any further suggestions of
readings or theories or great thinkers that you would like to recommend, please do not hesitate to
do so. I would like to flip through my History of Psychology textbook, but I lent it to a friend and I
am unsure when I will get it back. "If you're looking for self–help, why would you read a book
written by somebody else? That's not self–help, that's help. There's no such thing as self–help... if
you did it yourself, you didn't need help." Well, I'm lost when I try to do this myself. So I suppose I
am looking for help. But, I'm looking for something beyond any help that can be offered to me
through medication or therapy or anything like that. I want to find the answer myself, but I

Persuasive Essay On Relationships
It starts the moment we come to this world. Thousands of people around us that we're get to interact
with throughout our lives. Whether it's our families, friends, co–workers, or even acquaintances, we
always strive to create a perfect and unique relationship with others without really knowing what
it actually needs to do that. According to the Dunbar's theory, even though we might meet
hundreds of people on a daily basis, we can only maintain a stable relationship with only 150
individuals, and only 5 of which will be best friends, or people to whom we hold the most meaning.
Developing a good relationship cannot in anyway be done by following a series of easy steps, rather
it takes a complex group of actions on all levels to happen....show more content...
Also, listening to their opinions and thoughts will lead to a healthy relationship because the two
sides in a relationship complement each other. Giving your honest opinion will earn you trust in your
relationship, but it's very important to make sure that you use the appropriate wording so that you
don't hurt your partner's feelings. Talking negatively to your partner can frustrate them drive them
into thinking that you no longer wish to proceed in the relation. Respecting others also means
respecting their privacy, this is very important because it makes them feel safe around you, and it
makes them trust you. Furthermore, the two sides in a relation shall respect each other's properties.
Expressing gratitude and appreciativeness in a relationship is very necessary since it generates a
sense of harmony and acceptance between the sides involved in the relation. Also, appreciation gives
a lot of positivity into the relationship and allows the relation to grow and develop, and it establishes
confidence and trust between partners. Being thankful to your partner makes them feel that you're
appreciating what they're doing for you, and it encourages them to continue doing. It also results in
your partner appreciating what you are doing for them and how much you care about them.

Persuasive Essay On Drugs
It is a right minded idea to think that strict laws against possession and use of controlled
substances would deter people from using drugs and make for safer communities. The average
civilian would probably think cops are cleaning up the streets when they see someone in handcuffs
for owning or using any type of illegal substance. But the only reason that person is considered a
criminal is because of our laws, we don't know that they're dangerous. Why do they deserve to be
arrested and charged? Morally, they could be someone who wouldn't hurt a fly, but since they have
an illegal substance they are quickly judged and hauled away. There are pitfalls that come with these
laws that aren't obvious to the general public, and there are benefits that could come with tossing out
our current consequences. Legalizing possession and use of controlled substances could make for a
reduction of our current drug epidemic, solve issues with overcrowded prisons, and help drug addicts
to receive treatment. Current laws that criminalize possession and use of controlled substances have
proven to be ineffective when it comes to eliminating the drug epidemic. Our laws do not prevent
citizens from getting their hands on controlled substances; they only hand out consequences when a
person is found in possession or while using said substance. An immense amount of time and money
has been dumped into the U.S war on drugs and antidrug campaigns for decades in an attempt to
significantly reduce the supply and demand of common controlled substances. However the attempts
have backfired to an extent, Pierre–Arnaud Chouvy, a specialist in drug research internationally
affirms that "prohibition has created the world's most lucrative illicit market for some
psychoactive substances and encouraged their production" (Chouvy, 2012). So it is safe to say
that our war on drugs has not only been ineffective, but has actually pushed for a busy black
market. How? People are not afraid to do some dirty work and take risks for the profit that comes
from drug trafficking. Not to mention with the increase of business came an increase of violence in
the drug trade. In an article displaying the history of our war on drugs, Aileen Teague discloses that

Persuasive Speech On English Language
Ever since the dawn of mankind, some form of language has been used to communicate with one
another. Language and the ability to speak to one another to get things done is what I believe makes
humankind the most sophisticated species on the planet. However, over the last few hundred years,
one language in particular has become one of the most universally taught subjects: English. With
several hundred, or maybe even thousands of languages being spoken by nearly seven billion people
today, English has become the method of communication across several different countries and
cultures. If, for example, English wasn't adopted as a globally respected language, then it would
make communicating with other cultures very difficult. Don't get me...show more content...
Whether we are trying to communicate across several countries or simplifying documents and
dialects locally, there needs to be some form of legislation when it comes to language, and I
believe instilling a global language can help us achieve all of the above. Both my mother's and
my father's side of the family migrated from Cuba to Miami in the late 50's, early 60's. When I
was born my parents had to work during the day, so my grandmother, Aba, used to always take
care of me, and since she migrated from Cuba, she mainly spoke Spanish with knowledge in only
a few English words. When Aba passed away in 2001, I went to a family friend who also
prominently spoke Spanish. Today, at the age of 18, I can proudly say that those five first years of
life did not prepare me enough for Spanish, since I am mostly an English–bred Hispanic. Sure, I can
start a simple conversation and maybe talk Spanish for a little, but overall, I am known as the
family "gringo," which is a harsh way of saying I can't speak Spanish. This hasn't just happened to
me. Phillip M. Carter, a professor of linguistics at the FIU Department of English, has found that
Miami is undergoing what is known as a "language shift." The shift means that Miami is becoming
less in touch with its Spanish–speaking roots and is turning to more English–based communication.
Carter's own research indicates that "Miami–born Latinos even

Persuasive Essay Help

  • 1. Persuasive Essay "Your assignment is to write a persuasive essay and present it to the class in a week. You will be graded based on how convincing it is. Today we will be choosing topics," announced Mr. Bowerbank, my 7th grade English teacher and ruler of classroom 110. My class simultaneously groaned at the prospect of work. I simply lifted my head with intrigue as it was already May and about time we had our first essay. He then proceeded to give examples of topics we could choose and gave us some time to think before we had to tell him our topic. My classmates were already rushing to tell the teacher their idea lest someone else steal it. That meant the usual abortion, death penalty, or drug use topics were out. I really couldn't think of anything and the teacher was slowly making his way through the remaining students like an executioner beheading criminals in a line. I have always thought that he would make a marvelous supervillain if he had a curly mustache, a tophat, and a cape. Eventually my name was called. I slowly dragged myself over to his desk. Even sitting down, he still seemed to tower over me. "What is your topic Cindy?" As usual in such desperate times, my mind turned to food. "Waffles are better than pancakes." I figured that awaffle was just a differently shaped pancake with a nicer texture. "Hmm. Excellent topic. I look forward to your essay!" I survived to live yet another day. As I walked to lunch, I went around and asked everyone the age old question: "Do you like Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Persuasive Essay Schools have been using the same learning techniques for a long time. Since technology has been evolving, there are changes that have made schooling harder, and some changes that have made schooling easier. For example, instead of using paper and pencil students now have iPads and their own laptops to do their school work on. Are these more advanced changes for the better, and make learning more convenient, or are they unfavorable and make schooling complicated and more problematic? Most examples lead to the conclusion that laptops are more convenient. for the reason, that they make school work easier and generate easy access to sites for research. During the beginning of my Highschool career everybody was given an iPad; grade six to grade twelve. However not everybody is fond of the iPads. Many students, throughout the long school days, have come up to the library to check out a laptop because they either "lost" their iPad, or they just don't want to use it. Many students have tried to check out laptops even when they have their fully functioning iPads, so now whenever you want to check out a laptop you have to leave your phone for collaboration. In almost every class teachers use the iPads, but not all teachers are fond of the iPads either. Some teachers continue to use paper and pencil because it's more of a convenience to them. Laptops are more convenient for me to use because of the classes I'm currently taking. Such as my CIS comp, CIS world history, and my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Homework What the public is concerned about is if homework should even be assigned? Homework was contrived to prepare students and help them engage them in the content being taught. Homework also enacts time management skills and responsibility of growing young adults. Although the debate about if homework should be given minimally or in discretion and that homework has no verified benefits still stands. Homework is necessary for causing students to be engaged in the content taught and delivers time management skills for the future. The stance that homework is necessary and helps students engage in the content and learn time management skills is one I concede with assiduously. Homework is given to students to help them retain the information they learned in class and leads to academic achievement. Many research studies have found evidence of a positive correlation between homework and student achievement. Since students are given homework nightly, it will help them absorb the content and they can score higher on a test or quiz. Homework also helps students develop responsibility and life skills, and prepares students in time management skills. Research claims the ability to manage tasks provides essential learning, increased motivation, and academic benefits. When students engage in homework it makes them more successful and independent in the long run. Although homework may take up time after an extracurricular and can lead to less sleep; for example, a student doing a sport after school, getting home and having to do homework on top of that. Doing an extracurricular and still completing homework are inherently important, students will gain time management skills if they are doing both. If a student can learn to juggle an extracurricular with homework it will help them learn life skills. Homework will lead to the academic growth, achievement, and the success of a student. The stance that homework is important, but discretion can and should be used when assigning it is one I partially concede with. Homework should be given in the accounts of different classes, since not all classes are the same. Homework is given in regards to class type (CP, Honors, Advanced–Placement), homework severs different classes by rigor Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Self Control First thing that I do every morning when I get up is pray and ask God for his protection and help me to control myself where I go during the day, it could be work, school, the store etc. Self–control is a skill we all possess yet we tend to give ourselves little credit for it. Besides, the ability to remain calm under pressure and exercise self–control has a direct link to our performance. Moreover, when it comes to self– control, it is so easy to focus on our failures that our successes tend to faded in comparison. Furthermore, self–control is an effort that's intended to help one achieve a goal. One thing that I do to exercise self–control at my in helping me achieve that goal at my workplace at times is to mediate. Research shows that mediation train one brain to become a self– control machine. In addition, while mediating, I pray and ask God for his protection for be mindful of what I do and say. In that process one thing I do is take few minutes to focus on nothing but my breathing and my sense, which improve self–awareness and my brain ability to resist negative desires. Another thing is self–forgiveness. If someone wrong me I will ask God to forgive me first then I will ask god to help me forgive that person. Impression management is a psychological process by which people attempt to control how they are perceived by other people and groups. When I'm at work, I do not work to impress anyone, I work so that God can be pleased with what I do. I do not do eyes servant Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Persuasive Essays : Persuasive Essay When I began this class, I loved to write persuasive essays. I loved to write about my own opinions and I was quite good at convincing people to agree with my stand points. To convince others to agree on my point of view was an extraordinary feeling. I am very good at getting my point across and giving my reasons on why I feel the way I do about a certain situation. I loved writing persuasive essays because I love to read them as well. I love how persuasive essays have a call–to–action; giving the readers a chance to do something about the situation. I am all for protest and rights for others, if I believe someone is wrong I will stand my ground and prove that it is wrong. I loved to write persuasive essays because, I am a persuasive person in life. My opinions matter just as much as everyone else. Writing persuasive essays, is like writing from the soul. To be able to put my all into a piece and show why it means so much to me. By taking this class, I have come to enjoy the research paper. I feel now as I writer I still love persuasive writing; just know I include research to help strengthen my opinions. I am an organized writer as well as a descriptive writer, being able to write things in logical order and having things well explained for a reader. Giving my readers a better visual is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Persuasive Essay On Refugees According to UNHCR, a refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war, or violence. A refugee has a well–founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group. Most likely, they cannot return home or are afraid to do so. War and ethnic, tribal and religious violence are leading causes of refugees fleeing their countries. When people flee their own country, and seek sanctuary in another country, they apply for asylum – the right to be recognized as a refugee and receive legal protection and material assistance. An asylum seeker must demonstrate that his or her fear of persecution in his or her home country is...show more content... On the one hand, countries such as Sweden or Germany proclaimed themselves in favor of accepting refugees, which was in accordance with international obligations. On the other hand, the V4 countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) were definitely for tightening their boundaries and for helping the refugees only in the places they actually were. In the attempts to "manage the immigrant crisis" several strategic mistakes have been made, which have shaken the functioning of migration policy in the European community. Particular controversy was stirred up by a plan for the relocation of 120,000 refugees suggested in September 2015. Some months later (April/May 2016), the European Commission came up with the idea of fines for those countries which would not receive the relocated refugees. The fine for one unaccepted foreigner was supposed to be €250,000. The attempt to impose a quota of immigrants on member countries together with high fines contributed to further divisions inside the EU. Freely accepting the migrants would be a much better solution. Moreover, distribution of refugees calculated according to host country population or gross domestic product was a gross simplification and unworkable. Also, possibilities of integration of the migrants in particular countries should be taken into consideration. Equally important is the dialogue of all the 28 EU member countries concerning common solutions for asylum policy. Additionally, the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Persuasive Essay On Seeking Out Help Much of the population within the United States feel that they are unable to express their feelings due to being afraid of society's input and interpretation on the matter. People who deal with mental illnesses are frightened to seek out help for their conditions because they are afraid of society's connotation on depression. Seeking out help provides assistance and support during battles with depression. Even though depression can become crippling and overtake one's life, seeking out help is important to overcome it because it can provide assistance with the internal battle. • 8. Persuasive Essay On Care For Veterans Throughout history, many veterans suffer after fighting in wars, and millions of veterans have been killed or injured. Veterans do not necessarily get the treatments they deserve without paying a price. Taking care of veterans costs a lot and health care is needed for them. They need health care after serving, in order to treat their problems and injuries. Jobs are also important to veterans because they are jobless after fighting in wars, which leads them to be homeless. It is important for people who need help to get help. As of right now, the government has attempted to help veterans, but it may not be enough. The government has a major role in giving veterans care. There are many organizations and programs for veterans. The government helps veterans by giving them health care, but they do not help veterans with jobs. Although there are many support groups for veterans, it is an example of a small problem due to the fact that there are millions of veterans in need (Carter). The government is unable to fix some problems, but it has continued to increase the amount of money that goes into caring for veterans. The VHA is funded differently compared to something like Medicare. The amount of money spent for veterans would change if the veterans that need more help receive more help (Golding). As the number of veterans rise, the amount of money to take care of them would also increase. The government's role in caring for veterans is important for them because they have risked Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Persuasive Essay About Helping People I've always wanted to be able to help people in any type of way, even if it's something so small that means the world to them. Throughout my childhood, I've become quite accustomed to the idea of wanting to really help people; make a change to their lives in a way. When I got older, it became a little more difficult for me to be able to carry this out, since I've been working while going to school for the past three year. I started to run out of time that I could be using to help people less fortunate, that time was instead used for school and work. I decided to get in contact with my childhood friend's mother to see if she could help me out in any way. She eventually responded and she assisted me with this essay. Mrs. Whitmore has beenvolunteering with many projects throughout her life to help make a homeless person's/ anyone who is less fortunate day a little bit better. I asked her what made her want to start helping people in the first place. Mr. Whitmore informed me that it wasn't too far from what I had said; she always liked helping people just because, but then she wanted to do more than just being polite, so she took it to the next level and ended up making volunteer work a huge part of her life. The admiration that I have for this woman; she ended up being someone I have utmost respect for. In the email, she insisted that I volunteer at this place called Cafe 180. • 10. Persuasive Essay : A Cry For Help A Cry for Help A couple years ago, I was in Florida for a vacation to visit my family. I went for a walk for some fresh air because my family was being overwhelming. As I was walking, I heard someone screaming but I didn't think much of it For a second, I wanted to go back and get my coat since the night was a bit chilly but I felt like something was pulling me away from home; even though I didn't want to face my family, I also felt something else as if I had to just keep walking. A couple of feet in front of me, I saw a woman walking and she didn't look like she was having the best day in her life, and as I was not either. As soon as she saw me walking behind her, she started to walk away fast. The least to say is she shouldn't have walked away fast. Her screaming sounded like she wasn't safe. Whenever I go for walks, I usually have my head down to the ground, but this time I didn't; I had my head up high. I saw a guy crossing the street to where the girl in front and I were walking; his clothes said a lot about him. He was wearing all black clothes including a hoodie and a hat. My thoughts on his clothes were that he was going to do something illegal; I hated myself for thinking that but I also hated myself more for being right. When he was next to the girl, he pulled out his gun on her and stole her handbag. What I wasn't expecting is for her to be fighting back especially since he had a gun in his hand and could have shot her at any second. I knew what I was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Persuasive Essay On Drug Addiction Drug addiction is a complex problem in society today. Addiction is a condition that extremely affects the person's mind and body. Addiction also has wide sweeping effects on that person's social connection and functioning. Unfortunately, many addicts don't realize the social influence of their addiction until much of their functioning has greatly deteriorated. Addiction is a "chronic disease characterized by drug seeking and use that is compulsive, or difficult to control, despite harmful consequences." The initial decision to take drugs is voluntary for most individuals, but frequent drug use can lead to brain alterations that challenge an addicted person's self–control and interfere with their ability to resist intense urges to take drugs. These brain alterations can be persistent, which is why drug addiction is considered a "relapsing" disease. People in recovery from drug use disorders are at increased threat for returning to drug use even after years of not taking the drug. It's common for an individual to relapse, but relapse doesn't mean that treatment doesn't work. As with other chronic health conditions, treatment should be constant and should be adjusted based on how the patient answers. Treatment plans need to be reviewed often and modified to fit the patient's changing desires. Although it is true that for most people the initial decision to take drugs is voluntary, over time the changes in the brain caused by frequent drug abuse can impair a person's self–discipline and ability to make sound judgements, and at the same time create an intense impulse to take drugs. It is because of these alterations in the brain that it is so puzzling for a person to stop abusing drugs. Luckily, there are treatments that help people to neutralize addiction's powerful disruptive effects and regain control of their lives. Study shows that combining addiction treatment medications, when suitable, with behavioral therapy is the best way to ensure success for most patients. Treatment approaches that are custom–made to each patient's drug abuse patterns and any concurrent medical, psychiatric, and social problems can help achieve sustained recovery and a life without drugs. The alcohol abuse definition is similar Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Persuasive Essay Benefits Summer is a great time of year when students are stress free from all the school work they have been doing for the past nine and a half months. What most people think is how much summer takes away from the learners. Many students' test scores drop from the end of the school to the beginning, and people are blaming summer. Parents, teachers, and professors don't realize that summer is a time for kids to learn about the real world. This summer most freshman through seniors will have jobs. Even though it's said that students' test scores go down does not mean that they're not learning anything. At jobs young adults get to learn about things that students can't learn in school, such as work ethic, how to use money and, and how to work with different Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Persuasive Essay On Community Service Every Sunday, I have the opportunity to help as a child care worker in my church's nursery; and every week, after spending just one hour watching over the kids so that their parents can go to service and not have to worry about their children, I remember exactly why I spend my free time helping others. The term "Noblesse Oblige" is why I choose to be involved in multiple childcare opportunities and community service clubs. I believe it is my job to make sure those who are less fortunate, or in need of aid, get the help they require and deserve. I take part in different aspects of community service because it helps better my community and makes me a stronger leader. For the past three years at Liberty High School, I have been a member of the Key Club community service organization. As a member of this club, I am able to help with different jobs around the community that help the people in our town specifically. For example, every first Wednesday of the month I go and help with a project called Snack Pack. During this time, about fifteen other kids and I prepare three weeks worth of food for seventeen high schoolers in our school district. These are kids that do not have enough money at home to always have food on their table. Snack Pack plays an important role in their lives because without it, they would not always eat. These kids deserve the chance to live their life and go to school without having to worry about whether or not the will eat dinner that night. That is why I value my role in this club so much, because I know what we do makes a difference. When the kids collect their food, they are able to relax a little more knowing that their family will be able to eat. Another aspect of Key Club that I take part in is Fairy Tale Forest, held at Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary. Every year, the weekend before Halloween, I volunteer, with a handful of others from the club, to go and work at the children's fairy tale nature walk. The past two years I have been a runner. This means I do the odd little jobs, like run food and drinks around to the different characters that are working in the trail, that would otherwise be forgotten or not done at all. Although this is a small role, it is what helps make Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Reflection Of A Persuasive Reflection Reflection of a Persuasive Essay by Vickie Hale In my revision, I decided to incorporate actionable feedback from the feedback I received. The feedback I received was that my essay needed more clarification, I choose to use this feedback to help make my argument more developed, I wanted to create a better thought out essay and I worked on the clarification of my argument as well as renewed my research. With that, I did some critical thinking to help work through the weak areas of my essay which was the structure and syntax. Therefore, I incorporated these suggestions because they helped me to improve my essay and help me to create a more persuasive essay. Without these changes alongside the small revisions, I made, I do not believe my essay would have been as well–written so they were much needed. My biggest challenges came from not being able to pin down my argument, it took me a while to come find a side to an argument that wasn't vague. Because, I usually write in a creative way, which does not necessarily have to be persuasive, I usually write fictional stories and people getting the understanding from the experiences of the characters is the outcome, but with persuasive writing, you are trying to get your readers to not only agree with your side of the argument but to see what and why you are arguing your side in the first place. This became difficult for me because I kept feeling like my argument was not central and a little vague. I worked on trying to help my readers understand what and why I was arguing my side of the argument. I had to think about who was reading my essay and this helped. What I could have done differently is choose a more central argument, I believe it would have reduced my challenges. This question is hard for me to answer because I did not receive but one peer feedback, the feedback I incorporated concerning my exploration of the issue was more clarification because that was one of the problems my peer review pointed out. I worked on my clarification because it is one of the main elements, that is needed when you are writing a persuasive essay or any essay for that matter. Clarification gives the essay structure so your readers can have a full understanding of your Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Persuasive Essay On Dogs Known as man's best friend, the domestic dog is the greatest pet a person can have. Historically, the canine has been a companion of man for thousands of years. Dogs have become important members in individual's personal lives. They can also be utilized to benefit society as a whole. Dogs should be considered the greatest animal because they can provide health benefits, are able to accomplish unique jobs in society, and have profound meaning for people. When acquiring adog, many only consider the emotional benefits that they will gain. However, dog ownership is also associated with several physical benefits. Owning a dog promotes an individual's physical health and can inspire them to live more active lives. When compared to non–dog owners, individuals with dogs live longer and more active lives. The active lifestyle that most dogs and their owners engage in, such as participating in walks, provides physical activity for the individual. Increased levels of physical activity help individuals manage their weight and promote heart health. Studies have revealed that dog ownership has been associated with lower levels of cardiovascular disease and death (Larned). Many individuals avoid dogs because they fear they are or will become allergic. However, dogs carry their own unique bacteria, which can have immune boosting benefits for their owners. Studies have also shown that dogs have the ability to detect some cancers and other health problems in their owners (Clark). Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Essay on Does Homework Actually Help Students Everyone at one point in time has complained they have had too much homework. Especially in High School. I was always told homework will help me because it is a way to practice and fully master the material I needed to learn. In high school students spend a few hours a night doing what they see as busy work, meaning they do not think it is helping them at all. Some students do not mind work load. They feel doing the problems, writing the short responses, filling out packets, helps them because they practice and remember the material. Aquestion that has come up is whether assigning packets of homework, mostly finding a word and it's definition, will help students master material better than assigning less or none at all. I believe that...show more content... In cases like this, students do not learn the material. By simply writing many definitions, or even writing wrong definitions, students do not grasp a deep understanding of concepts or main points of the material. As stated in the book Helping Your Child with Homework, the best type of homework assignments are the type that include some kind of feedback from the teacher to the student; the homework assigned to students should also be at a level appropriate for the students learning abilities, and the assignments should challenge the student intellectually (book citation). Packets filled with simple questions such as " what is meiosis" or "give the definition of simile" do not challenge students and teachers do not give much, or any, feedback to students with this type of homework. Many argue that it is difficult for teachers to give feedback when they teach one hundred or more students. The amount of papers they need to grade is high and they simply do not have the time to write comments on every assignment. My answer to this is simple. Instead of assigning packets of homework, assign a few critical thinking questions. The students would give a brief summary on the main concept, then perhaps paraphrase a definition that is important to know. Students would then really think about their answers and the teacher could give comments since they will no longer have to skim packets. Teachers would only have to read Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Self-Reflection: Connecting The Dots Perhaps this deep awareness and self–reflection is both a blessing and a curse! Hmm, connecting the dots in a way no one else can. Mustn't innovative thinkers build off of some fundamental idea that is necessarily framed and shaped by previous thinkers? I find it hard to believe that any epiphany I might have is truly unique in that it was not inspired by something or someone else before. Yes, it is necessary to connect the dots differently, uniquely. My life, the oddities, the synchronicities, the hardship, and the way that the universe conspires around and about me, is no doubt different from the experience of previous thinkers. Yet, as I connect these dots to fit my life, I still feel that it is wise to continue to be guided by past brilliance. If you have any further suggestions of readings or theories or great thinkers that you would like to recommend, please do not hesitate to do so. I would like to flip through my History of Psychology textbook, but I lent it to a friend and I am unsure when I will get it back. "If you're looking for self–help, why would you read a book written by somebody else? That's not self–help, that's help. There's no such thing as self–help... if you did it yourself, you didn't need help." Well, I'm lost when I try to do this myself. So I suppose I am looking for help. But, I'm looking for something beyond any help that can be offered to me through medication or therapy or anything like that. I want to find the answer myself, but I shamelessly Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Persuasive Essay On Relationships It starts the moment we come to this world. Thousands of people around us that we're get to interact with throughout our lives. Whether it's our families, friends, co–workers, or even acquaintances, we always strive to create a perfect and unique relationship with others without really knowing what it actually needs to do that. According to the Dunbar's theory, even though we might meet hundreds of people on a daily basis, we can only maintain a stable relationship with only 150 individuals, and only 5 of which will be best friends, or people to whom we hold the most meaning. Developing a good relationship cannot in anyway be done by following a series of easy steps, rather it takes a complex group of actions on all levels to happen....show more content... Giving your honest opinion will earn you trust in your relationship, but it's very important to make sure that you use the appropriate wording so that you don't hurt your partner's feelings. • 19. Persuasive Essay On Drugs It is a right minded idea to think that strict laws against possession and use of controlled substances would deter people from using drugs and make for safer communities. The average civilian would probably think cops are cleaning up the streets when they see someone in handcuffs for owning or using any type of illegal substance. But the only reason that person is considered a criminal is because of our laws, we don't know that they're dangerous. Why do they deserve to be arrested and charged? Morally, they could be someone who wouldn't hurt a fly, but since they have an illegal substance they are quickly judged and hauled away. There are pitfalls that come with these laws that aren't obvious to the general public, and there are benefits that could come with tossing out our current consequences. Legalizing possession and use of controlled substances could make for a reduction of our current drug epidemic, solve issues with overcrowded prisons, and help drug addicts to receive treatment. Current laws that criminalize possession and use of controlled substances have proven to be ineffective when it comes to eliminating the drug epidemic. Our laws do not prevent citizens from getting their hands on controlled substances; they only hand out consequences when a person is found in possession or while using said substance. An immense amount of time and money has been dumped into the U.S war on drugs and antidrug campaigns for decades in an attempt to significantly reduce the supply and demand of common controlled substances. However the attempts have backfired to an extent, Pierre–Arnaud Chouvy, a specialist in drug research internationally affirms that "prohibition has created the world's most lucrative illicit market for some psychoactive substances and encouraged their production" (Chouvy, 2012). So it is safe to say that our war on drugs has not only been ineffective, but has actually pushed for a busy black market. How? People are not afraid to do some dirty work and take risks for the profit that comes from drug trafficking. Not to mention with the increase of business came an increase of violence in the drug trade. In an article displaying the history of our war on drugs, Aileen Teague discloses that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Persuasive Speech On English Language Ever since the dawn of mankind, some form of language has been used to communicate with one another. Language and the ability to speak to one another to get things done is what I believe makes humankind the most sophisticated species on the planet. However, over the last few hundred years, one language in particular has become one of the most universally taught subjects: English. With several hundred, or maybe even thousands of languages being spoken by nearly seven billion people today, English has become the method of communication across several different countries and cultures. If, for example, English wasn't adopted as a globally respected language, then it would make communicating with other cultures very difficult. Don't get me...show more content... Whether we are trying to communicate across several countries or simplifying documents and dialects locally, there needs to be some form of legislation when it comes to language, and I believe instilling a global language can help us achieve all of the above. Both my mother's and my father's side of the family migrated from Cuba to Miami in the late 50's, early 60's. When I was born my parents had to work during the day, so my grandmother, Aba, used to always take care of me, and since she migrated from Cuba, she mainly spoke Spanish with knowledge in only a few English words. When Aba passed away in 2001, I went to a family friend who also prominently spoke Spanish. Today, at the age of 18, I can proudly say that those five first years of life did not prepare me enough for Spanish, since I am mostly an English–bred Hispanic. Sure, I can start a simple conversation and maybe talk Spanish for a little, but overall, I am known as the family "gringo," which is a harsh way of saying I can't speak Spanish. This hasn't just happened to me. Phillip M. Carter, a professor of linguistics at the FIU Department of English, has found that Miami is undergoing what is known as a "language shift." The shift means that Miami is becoming less in touch with its Spanish–speaking roots and is turning to more English–based communication. Carter's own research indicates that "Miami–born Latinos even Get more content on HelpWriting.net
