Climate change is not a new concept. It has been mostly referred to as global warming in the past.
As much as people would like to file this issue away as something to deal with at a later date, it
simply cannot wait. This problem we face is costing us billions of dollars, forests and wildlife are
being eliminated, and people are dying. Starting to sound like a big deal, right? Future generations
will be affected the most. People who do not even exist will have to pay for what we, all people,
have done to this earth. To begin to make changes, one must realize the severity of the issue. Bill
Mckibben, author of "Recalculating the Climate Math," conveys that "We've already raised the
world's temperature by one degree–enough to melt almost half the ice in the Arctic, kill off huge
swaths of the world's coral, and unleash lethal floods and drought. July and August tied for the
hottest months ever recorded on our planet, and scientists think they were almost certainly the

By far, this article seemed to take into account many of the factors that influencing my ideas about
my inquiry project. I have been asking myself. Are texted spelling lists best for every student? In
what way is spelling important being that digital devices have auto correct? Does negative feedback
from spelling tests create reluctant writers? How much of individually studied spelling words carry
over into writing? Can children develop adequate proficiency in spelling simply through engaging in
a great deal of daily writing with constructive feedback from the teacher and peers? The result of the

Gender Inequality has been a problem for centuries, and is still a huge problem today, which is why
I am choosing to write about it. The basic definition for gender inequality is simple. The textbook
says that gender inequality "takes the form of patriarchy, or male dominance" (Ferris, Stein, pg
246). This form of gender inequality can be explained by taking a look at some of the earliest
societies. Hunting and weapon making were needed for survival. Men were expected to do that
job, because women didn't have the same physical stature as men did. What the women were
expected to do was cooking the food the men brought back home, cleaning, and bearing/taking care
of the children. Patriarchy doesn't just affect women, it affects everyone. For example, since
women are seen as the emotional ones, and the ones that need to be taken care of and need
protection, if a guy gets emotional, he is told to "man up", and "quit acting like a baby". Society
thinks that it is wrong for men to show emotions and cry. The negative effects of patriarchy on
women also negatively effects the men just as much.

Millions of animals are being unneedlessly tested on for cosmetics, even though there are plenty of
alternatives available and most of the results are unreliable or not applicable to humans. Although the
fight against animal testing has made huge progress recently, America has yet to stop this cruel
practice and chooses to torture animals while other countries are making a stop to the testing ("
Animal Testing 101").
Right now, millions of mice, rats, rabbits, primates, cats, dogs, and other animals are locked inside
cold, barren cages in laboratories across the country. They languish in pain, ache with loneliness,
and long to roam free and use their minds. Instead, all they can do is sit and wait in fear of the next

The barbaric practice of animal testing has been happening since the 19th century, and cosmetics
testing on animals has been around since the mid 1900's, when a woman was injured by using
mascara (Murnaghan, "Animal Testing Timeline"). The woman received burns on her eyes, and
ultimately was blinded by her makeup. This incidence caused the Food and Drug Administration to
pass the 1938 Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act, which introduced testing cosmetics on animals
to prevent injuries similar to this from happening (Murnaghan, "Animal Testing Timeline").
Much progress has been made to end this testing, gearing the world into the right direction of animal
testing free procedures, though, not everyone is on board. The United States have yet to hop onto
the train toward a free animal testing future. The United States continues to test on animals for
cosmetics even though there are numerous ways to test, without using animals, that are more
efficient and effective than animal testing. (3D tissue samples of corneas made from human cells
can be used instead of using an animal organ when testing for cosmetics side effects.) What is worse
