3.  In the 1940s and 1950s, directors didn’t
really attempt to gather for social change
so documentaries were propaganda-like.
Common features included staged
interviews and events.
 By the early 60s increased technology
made it possible for lightweight cameras to
be taken anywhere which enabled
documentaries to be more real.

4.  This new method of filmmaking is known
as ‘Cinema Verite’ and has French
meaning of ‘film truth’
 The genre avoids the use of features like
interviews, sound effects, narration and
music to tell stories. The footage solely has
an impact.
 Cinema verite has gradually changed
through time to being matured and
developed, portraying events around the
globe and providing avenues of analysis for
audiences and filmmakers worldwide
