10. Students gather important information through sight • How is there color? • Do they have any wounds or sores? • Is there any redness or swelling? • Do you see dry flaking or scaly skin? •
11. We will learn what is normal and what is abnormal, and when intervention is necessary
13. Students must learn to listen to their patients • Do they have concerns that have not been met • Do they understand their condition • Do they need further teaching • Are they anxious about their procedure • What do their lungs sound like
14. We will discuss in class therapeutic communication and how to be effective listeners
16. Students will learn to determine abnormal smells • Is there foul smelling drainage from wound • Does personal hygiene need to be addressed • Does the patients breath have an acetone odor •
17. We will discuss what some of these wounds may smell like. And we will learn about how some diseases are first suspected because of a smell
19. Students must be able to use sense of touch to assess patients • Does the patient feel warm • Are there any lumps or bumps • Is the area soft or firm •
20. Students will practice assessment skills on each other then eventually on patients in the clinical setting
