Computing education is in enormous demand. Many students (both children and adult) are realizing that they will need programming in the future. I argue that they are not all going to use programming in the same way and for the same purposes. What do we mean when we talk about teaching *everyone* to program? Should we have the same goals as computer science education for professional software developers? How do we design computing education that works for everyone? I propose the use of a learner-centered design approach to create computing education for a broad audience. I review the history of the idea that programming isn’t just for the professional software developer, and present case studies to explore the idea that computer science for everyone requires us to re-think how we teach and what we teach.

The only way to progress from coder to leader is to learn how to scale yourself. Nowadays, you can become a Senior Developer with just a few years of experience. After that, there are many roads and possibilities you can take. Whether you decide for a developer, architect, manager or a mixed career, at one point, you will need to become a leader. In the first chapter of the lecture we will start a discussion on how to get there. Since your time is limited, you need to mentor, coach, motivate and engage others. Start with making a stable foundation, like setting up a proper onboarding process. If you help people around you, they will for sure talk about it, and your manager will hear it. Also, demonstrate ability in everyday work: coding, project management, client-focus, communication and care about others. Always stick to your values and keep high standards. In the second chapter we will discuss the challenges that turn up once you get there. At that point you will deal with people more than technology. You will need to step away from coding for meetings very often. Interruptions will happen every day and it we be very hard to maintain “the flow”. You will need to learn how to delegate and drive topics without implementing them yourself. Visit the lecture to find out some techniques for dealing with interruptions, meetings, prioritization, people and their motivation.

A large part of being a software craftsman is practice. Using different "code games" we can have a full toolbelt of activities that will help us (and those around us) become better at our craft. Agile software development promises the ability to deliver value quickly. But this isn’t just a matter of process. Uncle Bob says "the only way to go fast is to go well." But how do we go well? As software developers, we can only deliver features as fast as the code base and our skills allow us. Unfortunately the quality of our code base is directly related to our skill in the past. Musicians and athletes spend most of their time practicing, not performing. As software developers (aspiring craftsmen) we must have practice sessions that allow us to improve our skills and develop better “code sense”. We’ll look at some different “agile code games” that will help us improve our craft.

Data spaces in distributed environments should be allowed to evolve in agile ways providing data space owners with large flexibility about which data they store. Agility and heterogeneity, however, jeopardize data exchanges because representations may build on varying ontologies and data consumers may not rely on the semantic correctness of their queries in the context of semantically heterogeneous, evolving data spaces. Graph data spaces are one example of a powerful model for representing and querying data whose semantics may change over time. To assert and enforce conditions on individual graph data spaces, shape languages (e.g SHACL) have been developed. We investigate the question of how querying and programming can be guarded by reasoning over SHACL constraints in a distributed setting and we sketch a picture of how a future landscape based on semantically heterogeneous data spaces might look like.
